- Christine is a North Pole elf who is curious about what life is like beyond Santa's workshop. Santa must suspect her interest in the outside world because he calls her in with an urgent assignment in Southern California. Will Van Camp, a little boy who has wished that his parents could rediscover the Christmas spirit. His mom and dad, Sara and Scott, grew a Christmas business from homemade decorations to a all-consuming store. Every aspect of Christmas has turned into how much can they charge for any decoration. Their work keeps them so busy as the holiday approaches that they never have time to do any decorating for the season at home. An artificial tree is brought home from the store on Christmas Eve, decorated, and then returned on the 26th so that it can be sold in the post-Christmas clearance sale. Christine arrives in California to apply for a nanny position to care for Will and his older sister Ally. It is there that she bumps into Sara's brother Dave. As the owner of a nursery, he has enough flexibility that he often cares for the kids while their parents work. He is really more of a parent figure for them than either Sara or Scott. Dave quickly notices how nurturing Christine is as a nanny - helping the kids decorate their own rooms, making Christmas cookies, and going to see Santa. Sara and Scott are disturbed by how much their kids have bonded to Christine. When Dave and Christine bring home a real tree and decorate it with homemade ornaments, Sara fires Christine. Christine has to go back to the North Pole; she has become emotionally involved with the family. That's against the rules. But.—Garon Smith
