This is the first game in the Animal Crossing series that allows players to dive underwater and collect deep-sea creatures, much in the same way that bugs and fish can be collected in the other main entries.
This is the first game in the series where, by default, Mr Resetti does not appear to the lecture the player when they turn their game off without saving. The player is given the option of building the Reset Surveillance Center in their town, which appears as a manhole in the floor and causes Mr Resetti to appear when the game is turned off without saving. If the Reset Surveillance Center is built, it is possible that the manhole will be open, allowing entry to the center, based on a number of conditions: * It must be the evening, and the day must have had clear weather. * The previous day must have had rain or snow. Once inside, the player can talk to either Resetti or his older brother Don, depending on who is there. Visiting them six times allows the player to receive a portrait of Mr Resetti; on the seventh visit, Don will be there instead, and will reward the player with his portrait.
