Sadness of the World

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of my favorite episodes of the show, it's also one of the darkest episodes in the show. It's true that like with most of these event arcs and episodes it doesn't have the same impact anymore as like with all of them you kind of had to of been there when it happened. But for those of us that have been there, we've never forgotten what we felt.

At this point I wasn't sure of anything as nothing is certain. From what just occurred it reminds us of the mortality of these characters, that what their doing isn't a game it never was. This is also a very different pursuit for the team because this time it's a manhunt and what makes it harder and more dangerous is that it's one of their own. You can also say the conflict between them and Artie is also the age old conflict between student and mentor.

Really liked Saul's performance you really felt like this was a completely different person. Artie is no doubt their most dangerous opponent as he's the one with the most experience under his belt making him a grand master. The warehouse raiders have a good amount of experience as well but it might not be enough. This really made me concerned about the raiders lives because I have no doubt in my mind that evil Artie will kill them just to get them out of his way.

It's suspenseful, like with most manhunt thrillers it's a ticking clock that is constantly running as we once again the fugitive with the bomb motif as evil Artie has a doomsday artifact. Seeing that you know the stakes are now high as they must either catch Artie or kill him before time runs out.

I really like seeing there are two conversations where both Pete and Jinx both have no illusions about the matter and realize that there may not be any other way that all or one of them, they'll do what they have to do to protect millions. And in the other half of the conversation, we see Mika and Claudia whom both downplay a little which is uncommon for both of them but shows how troubled they both are in this is obviously a dilemma for once they have no expertise in; as the problems they solve they have simple solutions but this is one where the simple and alternative solutions don't exist, for in this dilemma there are no promises and no tomorrow.

Even like the conflicts they have with Artie are intense it's sort of like watching a Chess match. You a little on the edge of your seat as we see these conflict do escalate to being downright deadly as the Raiders lives are put in physical mortal danger, granted you know they'll probably be able to get out of them but as the clock is running down so is their luck.

From that one in the museum where Pete and Mike encounter Artie. Here we see evil Artie is sort of a devil like villain. Just like the Devil he uses every weapon at his disposal to destroy every solder of good and part of that arsenal are lies and taping into people's internal fears. What he says to Pete and Mika really hit both hard, from Pete afraid of becoming an alcoholic again but also Mika being alone and her own egotism driving her to it.

And there is the final conflict in the mill, one I'll admit that hurt the most was with Claudia just seeing a tear or two from Claudia really made a tug at a heartstring. However, I knew that everything evil Artie told Claudia in that moment was a lie. In fact, evil Artie's whole plight is a lie as he keeps saying he want a previous artifact to save Artie, but this evil entity doesn't give a toss about Artie he just using that as an excuse to get his way which is to destroy as many souls as he pleases, such is the way of the Devil. But I also know for a fact evil Artie isn't Artie and never will be.

We then see the last critical minutes which in a way is the whole episode's theme is about part of the true nature of heroism, how it's about making uneasy choices and the courage and willingness to do what must be done. We see Claudia then finds the opportunity once the dagger artifact is used its suddenly out of Artie's hand in into Claudia's.

Evil Artie then carries out the rest of his evil plain by dropping the flower to unleash a doomsday plague, but after that moment we see he's paused for a long moment and look at Claudia. Here we see Arite's soul holds evil Artie off to give Claudia a telepathic message to do what she must do, to use the dagger to save his soul despite the possibility of death. Both are aware of this risk as their roles are to save lives on the line at any cost, no matter what. Instantly Claudia carries it out the action she must take without hesitancy.

I'll admit it was a shocking and emotional moment, just seeing Claudia break down and cry while hugging a fallen Artie, which put a tear or two in my eye. But it was also touching in a bittersweet way as we see Artie slowly dying but his soul has been restored.

The cliffhanger finale pertains to an old saying "the loss of one can bring great sadness to the world."
