The characters, all in the Navy, keep using the term AWOL (absent without leave). In fact, the Navy and the Marine Corps use the term UA (unauthorized absence). The Army uses AWOL, but it's not technically the correct term, as Unauthorized Absence is the term used in the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice).
At the end of the episode, the XO tells Capt. Chaplin that his son will be buried properly, "with 21 guns at Arlington". As any naval officer would know, the 21 gun salute is reserved for heads of state. Three volley salutes, in which 21 shots are fired, are performed at military funerals and are commonly mistaken for the former.
During a scene in the town by the brig, the captain gave an order to Lt.Shepard. Only thing, he mistakenly addressed her as Lt. Chaplin.
