The opening narration for the season opener includes a snippet from the original series: "...He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better..." What's more, the narrator is Deborah Pratt - who also narrated the original series.
The episode deals with a mysterious plane. Melissa Roxburgh is well known for her role as Michaela Stone on Manifest (2018) about a plane that reappears after being lost for five and a half years.
Ben mentions McGyver which happens to be another show from the 1980s (MacGyver (1985)) that got a reboot in the 2020s (MacGyver (2016)).
Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, with a person materializing in the quantum accelerator (the camera cut away before the person could be seen in full, so their identity remained a mystery). The cliffhanger is not resolved in the season 2 opener. Instead, the opening narration here states that, for reasons unknown, Ben did not leap home. While Ben did not make it home, no mention is made of who did appear in the accelerator.
