When Larry and Ayesha break in and Larry first searches Kyle's house, Ayesha pushes play on Kyle's laptop. Three seconds of footage that's shown is "Tape 56/frame narrative" from V/H/S. Therefore, footage of the "Tape 56/frame narrative" is shown in "Tape 49/frame/narrative," placing the first and second films not only in the same universe, but as part of the same plot.
The film was rushed into production in late 2012. It premiered January 19, 2013, like it's predecessor, at Park City's Library Center Theatre as part of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
Gareth Evans said that the original cut for Safe Haven was 45 minutes and included more background on the film crew.
