- Robin has a plan to get Barney out of her system for good, Ted witnesses Marvin's first crawl while babysitting for Marshall and Lily, and Barney has a new business idea after destroying a beloved tie.
- With Mickey away, Marshall and Lily are happy that Ted, who is between jobs now that the GNB building is completed, can sit with baby Marvin. They regret their decision to let Ted take this job as he goes a little overboard, depriving Marshall but especially Lily the joys of being Marvin's parents. Meanwhile, Lily has noticed that Robin is acting like a giddy schoolgirl whenever she's around Barney. Confronting Robin about the issue, Lily figures out it's because now that she has broken it off with Barney, Robin wants what she can't have. Robin knows what she has to do to get Barney out of her system, and has to figure out a way to achieve her goal. In her quest, Robin doesn't notice that Barney is on a quest of his own, all starting from a seemingly innocent incident of spilling ketchup on one of his favorite ties.—Huggo
- The gang dines out at MacLaren's with baby Marvin and Marshall and Lily are confident anyone can take care of Marvin. Since Lily's father Mickey is ill, Ted volunteers to take care of the baby. Ted is always present for the baby's firsts, such as learning to crawl, which angers Lily. Ted has also made a video of each of Marvin's firsts but turns out that Ted had the camera flipped the wrong way and hence it is a video of just Ted encouraging Marvin to do all those things. Marshall tries to console Lily that there would be many other first with Marvin like his first day at school, his first meeting with Santa, and his first touchdown at the Superbowl in 2032. When Ted cancels a meeting with a headhunter for a new project in order to spend time with Marvin, Marshall and Lily fire him as a babysitter. They reconcile with him after discovering that he made a scrapbook of Marvin's firsts and persuade him to meet the headhunter. Ted even took Marvin for his first trip to Santa. They figure out that GNB building was Ted's baby and Marvin had just replaced that. They says that Ted needs a new project of his own and encourage him to get a job. A flash-forward sees Marshall and Lily taking Ted's daughter to see Santa Claus as payback for taking Marvin to see Santa for the first time.
Having rebuffed Marshall's attempts to get some of his food, Barney accidentally spills ketchup on one of his favorite ties. Despondent that his tie has "died", he mourns its loss but later has a business idea. He intends to produce "Bro-Bibs," a line of adult-themed bibs designed to protect men's clothes against spilled food.
Meanwhile, Lily notices that Robin has been flirting with Barney even though he made it clear he will never pursue her again. Robin is giggling at everything that Barney says and is trying to attract his attention. She is acting like a dumb cheerleader flirting with a quarterback. When Lily talks to Robin, Robin says that she was the one who turned Barney down. Lily says that Robin may have closed the door on Barney, but he locked it. She tries to discourage Robin from trying it again and brings up the time Robin was diagnosed as allergic to lobsters. After learning about the allergy, Robin deliberately ate lobster because she knew she couldn't have it, Lily links Robin's feelings for Barney to Robin's allergy.
Robin stubbornly refuses to listen and tries various methods to get his attention, with all of them failing. Robin continues to act all dumb and cheerful in front of Barney, to the extent that the sane voice inside Robin's own head stages a protest and walks out. Robin argues to Lily that when she ate the lobster one last time, she never wanted it again. And that's her solution for Barney as well. She needs Barney in her system one last time to get him completely out of her system. Robin tries out many plays such as the "Damsel in Distress" (thwarted by Patrice who agrees to help out Robin), "The Center of attention" (Robin was surrounded by guys, and Barney ends up handing out Brobibs to them), "The is this Angelina Jolie" (Barney was distracted by laser tag), "The Ask for Lily's help" (Lily advises Robin to get frisky with another woman in front of Barney to get him aroused. Robin brings a coworker named Brandi when Lily was hoping that it would be her instead) During Robin's last play, Barney winds up seducing WWN's new weather forecaster Brandi (Chelan Simmons), but he changes his mind after realizing that he's been feeling adrift since breaking up with Quinn. Robin decides to give him space but arrives at Barney's apartment to seduce him again. To her surprise, he's on a date with Patrice, who has been giving him advice about his problems. Robin leaves, looking very hurt and sad.
