Solid episode
LoveIsAStateOfMind30 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Even though this episode didn't have Catherine in it, I still loved it. I thought the case was really interesting with the juvie kid and the world of hacking. Then hostage situations are always exciting and Kono was kickass. I liked the relationship between Kono and the little brother.

I wasn't a huge fan of Mary when we first met her but I think she was amazing in this episode. I loved the old guy even though clearly he was brought in to give someone to whom Mary could voice her thoughts to in this episode and act as a catalyst to get Mary to go see her Mum.

Overall a really solid episode.

Mary Returns Again
shelbythuylinh22 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
She is there with as for another job as she can't seem to hold a job. And with the late Shelly Berman who dies after this episode.

She is upset also and not wanting to speak to Doris and rightfully so. May have had a love-hate relationship with Steve, but that he has a messed up family as well as Danny's.

But still the COTW involves a now slain teenage boy that was tortured and killed by a group of men in skull masks and that over now his kid brother and parents are being held by the same group of thugs.

Kono finds a money trail and it is led by a Chinese kingpin who wants much more. RIP Shelly Berman.

The Other Side of Computer Hacking ****
edwagreen20 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The government makes an example of a teenage hacking expert by jailing him for 6 months. On the day of his release, he is kidnapped and murdered. Turns out that the teen had hacked into a mobster's file so the latter wanted him dead. What makes this episode so good was that the so-called obvious killer was not the person who did or ordered the killing.

The sidebar story relates to Mary's return to the island; this time she is a caregiver to a Shelley Berman look alike elderly gentleman confined to a wheelchair. Shocked by the revelation that her mother is still alive, Mary at first refuses to see her as the latter had abandoned her at age 3. That's until she gets fatherly type advice from the old man.

The taking of hostages by people paying condolence call to the teen's parents was quite exciting and quite a novelty. Kono gives the kidnapper a good kick for his efforts.

NOPE! - I Couldn't do it
nannyjo8 September 2023
The main story itself was fine, but I do have issues with part of the hacking story. I HATED Danny and Steve trying to force Toast to do any kind of sting infiltration. The man was CLEARLY not okay with it. They don't say that they were going to pay him to work under-cover, they just wanted to wire him up and send him into a warehouse full of people that could kill him at any time. I don't know why there wouldn't have been police protection on the family all along. They knew the killers didn't get what they wanted, didn't they think that they might go after the family and search the house, just like Kono was doing? My main issue is the personal story with Mary and "mom." Maybe she is just a better person, than I am, but my first words would have been, "First: You are NOT my mom, she died when I was 10 and killed our family. MAYBE I can get to know and possibly like this stranger I am meeting."
