Filled with compassion, Lance Sweets is a really kind man. During the investigation of a young murder victim, found in a suitcase that has been dropped in a river, a fifteen year old girl is introduced as a friend of the family. Events lead to big party that was attended by a large number of kids and the victim, who is young and small in stature, seems to have a thing for the girl. But pictures show him to be on the periphery. The girl comes to Sweets and admits that she had been raped, but probably drugged at the time. He says he won't tell, but he realizes he can't keep the promise. He does what is right legally and, in her eyes, betrays her. So he takes it upon himself to discover the identity of the rapist, partly to make it up to her. Very good episode back on an even keel.

This episode was just amazing! The way they dealt with such a serious and actual subject was simply spectacular. When Booth and Sweets went to talk with the victim's mother and her neighbor and her daughter we could see that Sweets knew that Kat was hiding something (probably due to his past as an abused child he knew she was afraid or embarrassed of something like he used to be on his childhood).
Then when the girl went to Sweets' office to talk to him he didn't seem very surprised because he knew something was wrong and he didn't want her to keep the secret any longer. She told him she had been raped. He didn't ask any questions because she was a minor and her mother was not present, he just tried to make her tell him the whole story so he could press charges. Kat was mad at Sweets because he reported what she had told him. We could see that Sweets was worried about the girl and desperately wanted to save her for her suffering.
That scene outside with sweets and the girl was very intense because they were connected by the pain they both suffered. When Sweets told her he had been beaten regularly by his foster father we could see the pain on his eyes. He truly understood what Kate was passing through. And the girl immediately trusted this man to find the person that had attacked her. It was such a beautiful moment because he exposed his own painful past to her so she could know she was not alone. I must say both John F. Daley and Lizze Broadway did an amazing job.
On the last scene in Sweets' office both Sweets and Kat broke down because they knew that everything that had happened to them it wasn't their fault but knowing this didn't make it hurt any less.
