The Return of Lorelei Martins
claudio_carvalho21 January 2022
When the manager of women's shelter Julia Howard is tortured and killed by Lorelei Martins seeking information of information on the death of her sister Miranda, the CBI team assumes the case and investigates the shelter. Homeland Security Agent Bob Kirkland contacts Lisbon expecting to share information about Lorelei with CBI Director Bertram's permission. The CBI team finds that Lorelei will chase another person from the shelter, but Lisbon orders Patrick to stay at the office. Soon he finds that Lorelei is hunting down Jason Lennon and heads to his house. What will happen next?

"There Will Be Blood" is an engaging episode of "The Mentalist", with the return of Lorelei Martins. Patrick Jane is obsessed to kill Red John and is crossing the grey line between right and wrong. My vote is nine.

Driven to extremes

Warning: Spoilers
After what happened in Red Sails in the sunset, Lorelei's cold and murderer mode appears. Surprisingly, Jane defends her. Looking for the persons responsible of her sister Miranda death, Lorelei tortures, kills anyone in her way (no children at least, she has a small heart). Lisbon and the team try to stop her but Jane not. Finally, Lorelei finds the truth and shoots Lennon (the man who allied with Red John and Julia Howard kidnapped Miranda) in front of Jane, denying him the chance to identify the serial killer. Later, she is found dead with the smiley face above.

The story of Lorelei is somehow strange, because is surprising how Jane gets involved and obsessed with this woman, considering he always knew no one would say Red John's name. I mean Jared Renfrew, the Tanners, Rebecca, Timothy Carter and his wife, O'Laughlin, no one would betray Red John. So Jane here made a big mistake, by trusting this troubled woman.

I'm siding with Lisbon (great performance of Robin Tunney), she never lost her morality. The scene at the house in Orchid lane was great, she was on the verge of crying when confronting Jane. She has feelings for him since season 1 (and kept growing) so was obviously hurt when he said he was involved with Lorelei. I mean, Mr Jane respects his deceased wife every time excepts when Lorelei appears, that's crossing a line. He betrayed Lisbon's trust and he hurt her, and considering all the things she has done for him, the patience she had, is somehow unforgivable. Cho and Rigsby followed her orders, and the latter was injured by Lorelei (no limits for this woman). In this episode Jane is more a villain, the victim and good man from season 1 is nowhere to be found.
