It is revealed that the "Michael Jordan" chef referenced by Chef Luca in Honeydew (2023) is in fact Carmen. An image of both Carmen and Luca is briefly shown within the restaurant that Richie is staging in.
The restaurant in this episode is based on the Chicago restaurant 'Ever.' Ever's head chef, Curtis Duffy, has his hands shot plating the dishes served in the episode. The restaurant closed for a week during filming.
The deep dish pizza sequence bears a striking similarity to a famed service industry anecdote by Will Guidara, American restaurateur and author of "Unreasonable Hospitality." In 2010, Guidara was running Eleven Madison Park, one of New York's premiere fine dining destinations, and overheard a table lament the fact that despite trying various top eateries on their trip, they had not gotten a classic New York dirty-water hotdog. Guidara rushed out to a nearby cart, and had the chef plate it and presented it to the delighted guests.
Bo Burnham is mentioned as a "person of note" on the list of guests dining one evening. Episode director Christopher Storer was a Producer of Bo Burnham's directorial debut film Eighth Grade (2018).
