Heartfelt Film About Employee Ownership
mpftmead6 November 2013
This documentary follows employee owned businesses, their various methods of implementation and how it affects the lives of their employees. It is interesting to see the level of commitment that is given to the business their fellow co-workers. It illustrates a solution to the principle- agent problem that was initially implemented by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton(Google: Thomas Jefferson employee ownership cod, 1st link)

I felt the movie was balanced in that it showed both the good (profit sharing, continuity, productivity) and the bad (employee layoffs, risk taking). I would recommend it to anyone who wants to pass on their family business to their employees.

Warning: Spoilers
As a past participant in employee ownership, I was reminded of the power of a team completely aligned with the goals and aspirations of their company. The film did an outstanding job of portraying the various aspects of employee ownership including the occasional challenges that face all business.

We the Owners, should inspire entrepreneurs and business leaders to adopt this truly sustainable business model. The ability to combine true capitalism with a view on achieving success for "All" the stakeholder is shown to be a model we should all strive to grow. It is amazing that more companies don't take this path given the many options for creating value.

This story and the way it is portrayed makes the film not only informative, but also inspiring and entertaining.
