The movie was inspired by the Halloween Blizzard of 1991. Ironically, when the scene where everyone gets trapped in the bar due to a blizzard was filmed, a snowstorm hit the area (despite being mid-March).
A lot of the cast and crew worked together in a community theatre production of The Odd Couple (Female Version) by Neil Simon. Aimee Chenal, Barb Ehrich Obinger, Yvonne Longendyke Thomas, Johnny Thomas, Olivia Wells, Shannon Conroy, and Daniel Ingalls all worked together in the theatrical production, and Meat Raffle was written with the cast already in mind.
Shannon Conroy was originally cast as Phoenix, but was unable to finish filming due to scheduling conflicts. She was replaced by Kari Layland, but contributed behind the scenes.
Alex Riley, who plays Darren, is a rapper under the name 50Cal. His song "Glory" plays in the background during the bar fight/wrestling scene with him and Sheila (Olivia Wells).
