The Last Goodbye is a special production, it was the directorial debut for Gordon Yarley directing a narrative film, it was one of the final productions that was worked on together after 3 years of learning experience on other productions, and lastly was is part of a collaboration between Humber College and William F. White International to give students new opportunities with growing technology.
The crew for this film was composed of Humber College students from the Film and Television Production program as well as students from Humber College's Animation program. The team up of programs was vital because The Last Goodbye is a virtual production film.
It was shot in March 2023 at William F. White's Toronto headquarters in their new TechLab volume stage. The Last Goodbye was the second of three short films to be produced with this new technology, giving me and my classmates the incredible opportunity to be some of the first students to get hands on experience with the filmmaking techniques of virtual production.
The Last Goodbye has been an official selection of the Hollywood North International Film Festival (2023), the Milton Film Festival (2024) and has also received an award of commendation from the Canada Shorts Film Festival (2023) and was a category award nominee of the Alternative Film Festival Winter 2023 edition for Sci Fi Shorts, and is an award winner receiving Best Film of the Couch Film Festival Spring 2024 edition.
