Big improvement but 2 points off for...
shuny27 April 2023
This episode was mostly based on current police business which is a big improvement over the constant angst with the love lives of the police officers and their dwelling on rehashed old stories. Aaron got to play a bigger role, but they still need to make him a main character. Wesley was his usual slimy annoying self while he hangs around the edges of stories. They absolutely don't need him to put in his two cents on things the police should already know. It's as if he is under contract for a few lines per episode. They had their opportunity in the past to knock him off and didn't take it. They seemed to have toned down Celena's character to closer to normal behavior. It is strange that the show is called The Rookie while that character takes a back seat. I took two points off my rating for ruining the episode with that useless walk-on by that raspy-voiced woman whose claim to fame is falling out of her much too-low-cut dress. They need to kill her show already so they don't taint this one with any more appearances by the talentless Niecy Nash.

I do not watch "crossover" episodes
gdump27 April 2023
On the faint hope that someone with control over content reads this, I now state categorically that I do not watch episodes that "crossover" to or from shows that I don't watch. I've chosen to watch THIS show, not the other one and if you are going to require me to watch both to get the story, then I choose to watch neither.

I also don't watch "season finale" episodes, particularly on this show, because they tend to be absolutely stupid. Then there's the "fall finale" that is often equally ridiculous.

There is more than enough other content available on streaming so I will not waste my time on episodes of this show that have a very high probability of really annoying me.

No more!
sysgoddess30 April 2023
While I like Nathan Fillion and most of the regular characters of this show it seems to show less of them actually doing anything related to law enforcement or police work.

The Rookie is no longer a rookie and was promoted to a Sergeant and/or Training Officer, something that would never happen nearly so soon in any medium to large modern police department anywhere.

Michael Rooker was a pleasant surprise tonight and, as always, he was excellent. With that notable exception this episode was not entertaining for me. Add to that the irritating presence of Niecy Nash who keeps cropping up on this show in endless crossover events with her "talents" half exposed in everything and her terrible over-emoting and grating voice.

Sorry show but I'm out on this one & won't be seeing you again.

And the soap operas continue
VetteRanger28 April 2023
After watching this episode only last night, I can barely remember what the 'criminal' plots were, because once again it was peppered with the soap operas. They weren't as bad as some other episodes recently, but they still infused most scenes.

The irritating rookie partner was back for this episode, and thankfully wasn't as irritating as I normally find her. However, they couldn't resist a soap opera for her, so they had to get her a date. LOL

Lucy's undercover plot was a non-starter for me. I found nothing about it interesting, and it seemed more a vehicle for her romantic soap opera than anything else.

The other plot about a possible serial killer leaving body parts strewn about the city turned out to be yet another cross-over to try to prop up the TERRIBLE FBI Rookie series with its own soap operas and irritating characters. So we won't know what happens to that plot since I won't be following that story up in the other series.

Once again, The Rookie is teetering on the edge of us pulling the plug. I haven't quite got there but it's now in my crosshairs.

you get to see the writer political views early
derherr-5647527 April 2023
I'm always annoyed by lazy writers injecting their politics and fictional propaganda over plausible events. They start early with 3d printed, metal free, undetectable, untraceable, repeating ghost guns easily made by amateurs from illegal plastic. No such thing exists. No such thing is anywhere near existence. Political agendas however outweigh physics and reality in the writers minds. Fake weapons are fine in Austin Powers, as comedy, zingers ans suspension of disbelief are the point of such movies. If you are going to pretend to be a current year police drama this level of gaslighting is distracting and off-putting.
