Amazon is teaming with Reese Witherspoon and her Hello Sunshine banner to develop a Legally Blonde TV series. Gossip Girl and The O.C. grads Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are attached to write the TV offshoot, whose premise is being kept under wraps. (We don’t know if it’s about the dog, but here’s hoping!)
Schwartz and Savage and their Fake Empire banner, Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine’s Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt and Amazon MGM Studios are all producing the potential offshoot.
It’s unclear if Witherspoon has any plans to reprise her role as Elle Woods in the potential TV series, which comes as Amazon has been scouring the MGM library to for titles to revive since acquiring the storied studio a few years ago. Austin Butler's career is certainly on fire at the moment, between his scene-stealing role in Dune: Part Two and his small screen work on Masters Of The Air. So naturally, he's in demand. The actor has now landed another plum role, starring in Darren Aronofsky's next film, Caught Stealing.
The Whale's director has author Charlie Huston adapting his own novel, which follows Hank Thompson (Butler), a burned-out former baseball player whose neighbor lands him with a cat and a whole world of trouble. He's soon deep within the New York crime scene, running for his life and trying to figure out what he's truly gotten himself into.
“I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers,” Aronofsky tells Deadline.
