- It follows the narrative of Sarah, a young girl immersed in a theatrical production entwined with a storyline that parallels her own life experiences.
- Encouraged by inspirational drama teacher Mr. Morgan, the students of the local high school embark on a theatrical version of the classic nursery rhymes "This little Piggy went to market". For dramatic intrigue Morgan resets the story to an Australian dark and dramatic scenario with Shakespearean dialogue. Morgan has long lived in the shadow of his Shakespearean actor father and this opportunity is important to him.
One of the students Sarah is an exceptionally talented creative spirit, she writes beautiful poetry and draws wonderfully, but is a private person. Morgan recognises her natural theatrical talent, and eventually persuades her to accept the significant role of Piggy, who in their version is a 'victim' who is bullied and sentenced to death. Sarah is seen by other students as 'different', and Morgan feels that being involved in the play, and displaying her talent, will be a psychological and therapeutic positive for the young girl. And it seems to work.
However, not fully understood by the drama teacher and the school councelor, Sarah is having profound difficulty in navigating the personal challenges that beset her. She is a romantic dreamer who derives comfort from the simple joy of riding trains and observing the passing lives of strangers through the windows. But at school the sensitive teen faces relentless bullying inflicted upon her by her peers - and the play's storyline psychologically almost mirrors her own life.
The narrative artfully interlaces the themes of community, loss, heartbreak, and hope. Sarah's suicide sets in motion a series of challenges, encompassing grief, blame, resentment and ultimately profound life lessons, that are reflected in the deeply moving final stage performance.
The story of Piggy resonates with households across the country and, on a daily basis, addresses issues that are often overlooked or swept aside. One of the predominant challenges faced by the youth of today is the pervasive issue of bullying, be it within the confines of a school, classroom, sports field, or the realm of social media. Bullying exerts a distressing influence on the lives of young individuals, with consequences that can be profoundly devastating.
We firmly believe that by creating a film that confronts this issue head-on, we can initiate essential dialogues among the youth about the profound and lasting impact of bullying on our children and society as a whole. Furthermore, we are convinced that by holding up a mirror to society's behavior, we can foster more constructive outcomes, promote meaningful discussions, and, ultimately, inspire change in the actions of those responsible for inflicting pain on others.
