Series regular Tyrese Gibson says Fast & Furious 11 won’t start filming until early next year, calling its original April 2025 release date into question.
Following the shuddering, $340m ball of fire that was Fast X, it’s been said that the currently untitled sequel we’re calling Fast & Furious 11 will be the last in the franchise. Universal Pictures has previously had that sequel scheduled for release on the 4th April 2025 – a date that now has a huge question mark over it following comments by series regular Tyrese Gibson.
Talking to Cbr, Gibson indicated that Fast & Furious 11, listed on IMDb as Fast X: Part 2, won’t begin filming until January 2025 at the earliest – a knock-on effect, he said, of 2022’s strikes.
“Because of the strike, both strikes, there were some real delays in writing and kind of getting the film up on its feet,” Gibson said. “I’m hearing that we...

The director of Fast X and the upcoming Fast X: Part 2, Louis Leterrier, recently took part in an episode of Watchalong, which is a Happy Sad Confused spin-off in which Horowitz watches an entire movie alongside a filmmaker. The two would watch Leterrier’s 2008 film, The Incredible Hulk. During the session, Leterrier gave a lot of insightful commentary on some of the behind-the-scene tidbits that would end up plaguing the film’s future. For example, he offered the revelation that a big part of Edward Norton’s departure from the universe may have been attributed to a conflict on the soundtrack for the film.
According to Variety, Leterrier would also regale listeners with stories of some of the tense working days with the late William Hurt, who portrayed General Ross in the film. Leterrier explained, “William Hurt didn’t want the mustache to act him out. The size of the mustache was a discussion.

John Cena made a surprise return to regularly performing in WWE wrestling matches recently, along with frequent appearances on the promotions television shows. But at a Saturday post-show press conference, he made clear that once the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, he’s out.
Cena’s made occasional appearances since transitioning into larger Hollywood acting roles, including in the “Fast and the Furious” and the “Suicide Squad/Peacemaker” franchises. When asked in a press conference after Saturday’s WWE Fastlane live event if a deal between actors and studios being reached soon means Hollywood calls him away from WWE, Cena responded, “They do. They do. And I’ve made it perfectly clear, you can’t do both, because of the liability insurance. And if I were to try to juggle both, that’s very selfish, because I would put a whole lot of people in the movie business out of...

Pencils ready.
Now that the writers strike is over, Hollywood studios are gearing up to get production rolling again — once the other half of this year’s dual strike, the ongoing SAG-AFTRA walkout, is finally settled.
From “Star Trek” to “Superman: Legacy” to “Abbott Elementary” to “Wednesday,” every studio, network and streamer has priority film and TV projects that they hope to fast-track back into development or production. Audiences cannot survive on reruns alone. Had the strike lasted a few weeks longer, the 2023-24 broadcast season would have become even more dependent on unscripted shows and programs imported from streaming platforms and overseas markets.
Several big movie projects could see preproduction resume quickly. Paramount is hoping to have writers fine-tuning scripts for its planned reboot of “Star Trek” and its adaptation of Tom Clancy’s “Rainbow Six.” And Warner Bros. would dearly love to see Matt Reeves hunched over his computer,...

This post contains major spoilers for "Fast X."
The Fast Saga has always played loose with continuity. Perhaps more than any other modern franchise, "Fast & Furious" knows that continuity is not nearly as important as the rule of cool. Characters can come back from the dead at any time, events from the past are recontextualized on the regular to reveal new information only relevant now. Nothing is off limits, everything can change, and mistakes or irregularities don't matter as long as the now is cool and exciting.
In typical fashion for the franchise, "Fast X" brings back people we thought were dead — physically or metaphorically. Near the end of the movie, we see none other than Gal Gadot's Gisele, back from the dead, and apparently working for Cipher on her submarine. Then there's the actual credits scene, which arguably pulls off the biggest magic trick the franchise has...

Of course, you can’t expect Universal to let their CinemaCon presentation come to an end without a look at the Fast Saga. Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, and Tyrese took the stage to run though the previous nine movies of the franchise, before introducing Vin Diesel. After boasting that the Fast & Furious franchise is the longest running movie franchise of all time (insert pause for dramatic effect) with the same actors, Diesel went off script, saying “I should be reading the teleprompter… you guys don’t give a shit about the teleprompter.” He then announced that Fast X – Part 2 will hit theaters in 2025 and shared some new footage from Fast X.
The trailer included a lot of footage from the entire franchise as well as Alan Ritchson’s character giving Brie Larson a rundown on the Fast crew, saying that the days where one man behind the...

Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Sung Kang took the stage to reminiscence about the long-running ‘Fast Saga’ franchise movie by movie, from the 2001 “The Fast and the Furious” to the upcoming “Fast X.” They joked about Dwayne Johnson joining in “Fast Five” and paid their respect to Paul Walker while discussing “Furious 7.”
Rodriguez noted, while discussing “F9,” how proud she was that “F9” was such a major part of the Covid-era theatrical comeback, and that the series overall has provided so many strong roles for people of color. Brewster noted that this installment has four Oscar-winning actresses in Rita Moreno, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and Brie Larson.
After that, Vin Diesel indeed showed up and noted that he enjoyed “this room” more than the Oscars. He noted that the people sitting in the Academy Awards are only there because of those sitting in this room. He spent...

The grand finale of the Fast & Furious franchise is starting to come together. Following the news that Fast X director Louis Leterrier would return to helm Fast & Furious 11, Deadline reports that Christina Hodson (The Flash) and Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox) have been tapped to write the script for the finale.
Fast X was penned by Dan Mazeau and Justin Lin based on a story Mazeau and Lin developed with Zach Dean. Neither Christina Hodson nor Oren Uziel has worked on the Fast & Furious franchise before, but Universal wanted some “new voices” for the finale. We should have a better idea of what to expect from Fast & Furious 11 once Fast X is released as Michelle Rodriguez has teased that the upcoming movie will end on a cliffhanger.

For a multi-billion-dollar franchise that has lasted more than 20 years and spans more than 10 films, the “Fast & Furious” film series has largely been written by a relatively small group of people. Chris Morgan, most notably, single-handedly wrote the scripts for the fourth through the eighth films in the franchise. And the last two were co-written by Justin Lin alongside a couple of other guys.
