Einar, intrigued by this demigoddess tries to come closer, unaware of the consequences of his actions. After being on her own for so long Alyki is trying to fight her urge for companionship, but doesn't succeed. In a play of push and pull she slowly falls in love with him. Against her best efforts to keep her heart closed and locked away, she accepts the risk and lets him into her life. When Einar gives Alyki a small wooden wolf, after telling her he's not afraid of wolves, she lowers her guard as he sees right through her.
She lets him in, but in a dream she is reminded of the consequences and she panics. Trying to push him away again but he doesn't let her. In their argument he hits a nerve and breaks down her barrier. She gives in.
They are sound asleep when Alyki feels a physical pain unlike the pains she's experienced before. The curse is doing its job. She runs outside, waking up Einar, who follows. The pain is excruciating and she falls to her knees. Einar helps her up again but when she turns around, he's gone. The physical pain dies down as she realizes the Gods have played a foul trick on her.
