Chief Inspector Fred Abberline is looking for a quick result when Irish revolutionary Aiden Galvin escapes from police custody. Galvin's particular area of expertise is explosive and he is soon back to work killing a member of the Carlton Club, MP Cecil Knightley, by placing a bomb under his bed. Abberline thinks the Irish Republican Brotherhood is behind it all but Inspector Reid has his doubts. When Homer Jackson determines that the policeman transporting Galvin was electrocuted, it's apparent that Galvin's escape was well-planned. When Reid learns that Knightley was responsible in part for awarding the contract for electrical stations, a profitable endeavor given the corrupt politics of the time, he sees a different motive for the killing. Young DC Albert Flight goes undercover to keep an eye on Evelyn Foley, Galvin's daughter.
