Disappointing
michaeluigileon22 November 2023
Quite disappointed by this new series - the premise was promising, although I feel the characters were a bit too soggy and raw - no energy, very little memorable moments. If you are a fan of Suburra, then this is a must watch to find out how the story develops from the previous series - that's unfortunately about it :/

There was hope for Spadino to develop, unfortunately he is the shadow of himself...The other characters, especially Cinaglia is not as fascinating and exotic. The female character is confusing, and Damiano fails to become a main character - the one that is interesting and intriguing.

Average sequel
Luigi Di Pilla22 November 2023
Sincerely, I expected more from these Italian Netflix Series. What I missed were more emotions, deep characters and some intelligent suspense content in the story. What I saw was the same dynamic in the first package of these episodes without the so important key dealers who lost their lives before.

Some scenes were cool but it was not the same atmosphere I have seen some years ago.

I think the only man who saved this sequel was Spadino from the Anacleti clan played by the top actor Giacomo Ferrara.

The director delivered a good job taking over from a high level of success. He did it quit well sticking together the plots. Who knows if the third season will be better than the last sequel?

6/10.

Good job but too much connected with the series
antoniotierno20 November 2023
I had watched Suburra, which is the hit 2015 movie but not the series. This review is so based on the eight episodes of this show and what the audience can take away from them as a standalone. All the prequels have had the Anecleti family at the center of things. The question is whether this show can be viewed as a standalone. The answer is yes, it can, although it takes time to understand the big picture, as none of these characters were known before if seen that way. It's not that the script is too bad, but it doesn't offer anything new. It is another power struggle, a clash of ideologies with no apparent reason, and just general gunslinging and firing At times, it felt like the story had too many details and politics that we were missing, and that was a mistake by the scriptwriters. The one genuine benefit of not having watched the prequels is that the audience will root equally for both sides at war. Briefly, this story is that Rome is 'in turmoil,' with the mafia, the church, and the government pushing their agendas at the expense of poor people. This is why it is apt to say that there are no good guys in this show, even if they look like they are doing the right thing. The fact is that we expected to feel something with Suburræterna. All in all is better to be watched with a global knowledge of other stories.

Italy still rules (regarding quality film making)
eldoradofilm216 November 2023
Sure, the other SUBURRA entries (and the champion, for my money the best TV series ever made, GOMORRA) were stronger. A few situations could have been written and / or directed better, but even a series that delivers "only" 80-90% from that group of film makers delivers more quality, better acting and less artificial storytelling than the usual stuff from the US with all those terrible dialogues. Great atmosphere, as usual very fine visuals and belivable acting makes this series another winner from Italia. Especially the way they dealt with the church I liked a lot, quite brave. (The new series' only minus, for me anyway, is the last episode. Can't wait for the next season!)

Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
Not at the level of the previous seasons, not by a long way. Overly dramatic, silly plot about a couple of siblings with literally nothing going for them suddenly taking over Ostia. I dont think so... The characters are there from before but this time they are predictable and uninteresting. They have all lost their edge because the script is poor and the plot formulaic. There are no more moral quandaries for the rising politician. Theres no more Samurai trying to run the city against the odds. Obviously no more Aurelio. So Spadino gets the central role and he is no longer in any way interesting because HE is not interested himself.

Didn't need to be made.

Superb

Back to the Suburra universe. Brash and brutal melodrama of political corruption and gangster turf wars in Rome - set at the fraught moment of spiritual crisis in Vatican. Perfect for binge watching. If you like other Suburra seasons, punchy neo-noir, its imbroglio of crime families, political corruption and endless deal makings about Rome real estate. You will enjoy this one as well. Remember that this a sequel to an earlier series. If you need a refresher or just to catch up, or if you want to watch in order, you should watch "Suburra: Blood on Rome" first and you'll appreciate this show even more.

A Poor Return
ljboden22 November 2023
I desperately wanted this to be good, but frankly, it really isn't. I picked the first season up after completing Gommorah (the best show in TV history bar none). Gammorah left a massive gap as all other TV now became rubbish. The first season of Suburra gave new hope. It wasn't as good as Gammorah but it was really enjoyable.

However, the second season is nowhere near close. I eventually gave up after 4 seasons. The loss of Alessandro Borghi is just too big a gap to fill. The large banner of him in the gym is a poor substitute. It appears that he was the show. The character change to Spadino is truly laughable. It doesn't work. The characters are not connectable and the speed of dialogue and zillions of names, makes following subtitles impossible. I won't be watched e5 and I now know that this show should have died with Aureliano.

Basta!
douglasmcbroom16 November 2023
Suburra is back after a 3 year hiatus and the news is not good. The original season was outstanding. 'Blood on Rome' was less so, but still good. Everything about this Season is subdued. The action is less, the plot is not as interesting, it's not as violent, or as sexy. Spadino (Giacomo Ferrara) has lost his spark and dresses in black. This season also misses Aureliano (Alessandro Borghi).

The result is a bit like a funeral march to it's inevitable conclusion. The fun is gone. The excitement missing. It's hum-drum and by the numbers. You could see the ending coming from a mile away.

This should be the end of Suburra. RIP!

The Shows Comeback was Pretty Good, but Next Season Gotta Be Great.
Sunflower00726 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was so glad that the show returned after the hiatus and the premise seemed promising. I remember thinking that some of the new characters didn't engage too well and lacked luster. Glad to see some of the older characters, but it sad that some of them have died. Still battles in Rome for money, property & power within gypsies, church officials & politician. I have to admit though that wasn't too much memorable moments with the older characters like Spadino aka Alberto & Angelica. Even though there really wasn't way too much love between them in the previous seasons, but they didn't have that mutual respect for eachother. Unfortunately, Angelica ruined that respect forever in this season. Now Spadino returns from Germany but with his Zagaro flares, lacks his witty spark, but he sound more comfortable & free about himself and is mature mentally, but hasn't forget his family. Even though he tried, but still values and does his best for the Anacleti family.

As Angelica new husband Damiano Lucian and his siblings are a disgusting family. They are just greedy, deviant, scummy and don't care who they hurt or kill in order to get what they want. Angelica made a dumb ass move to betray the Anacleti clan for the Lucian family. She obvious doesn't love her spouse Damiano and his character development really wasn't great to be a top lead of this series. I just hope in the next season he and the rest of the Lucian family dies. All & all the series wasn't too disappointing, but it in the following season must return with a huge bang, Still worth watching,.

embarrassing after what went before.
stevehorsley8 April 2024
At the top of the pile you ve got gomorrah and romanza criminale with the 1990s series close behind. The suburras are not up to that standard but are decent enough.unfortunately things go badly wrong with this new series featuring some of the old suburra blood on rome characters who have been furnished with a terrible plot and even worse script.to call many of the scenes corny would be an understatement and the cliches come thick and fast.spadino wears all black including shades, tries to be menacing but is a joke.the ercole character could be in a comedy feature.businessman/fixer type wearing a cheap suit and even cheaper ties.do yourself a favour and give this dross a missi haven t left any spoilers because there s nothing to spoil.
