Too long, and not very interesting

Warning: Spoilers
Some films are all action and no plot; EDGE OF DAWN is the exact opposite. It's an independent production, a thriller about an unsuspecting couple who are involved in a serious car accident and subsequently take refuge with a local resident who turns out to have murderous intentions. The film is intensely heavy on the plotting, with plenty of sub-plots and characters to get involved with, but what it lacks direction and action.

The main problem with this one is the pacing, which is really, really slow. The running time is way overlong and for much of the time the viewer is given little to do other than sit back and twiddle their thumbs. As an independent film, this isn't THAT involving, so any kind of action or incident in the story would have made it better. As it stands, it's all talk, and no payoff. The director is also inexperienced and completely fails to summon up any kind of mood or atmosphere at any point. This makes it a testing experience.

The worst protagonist couple in movie history.

Warning: Spoilers
The female protagonist must be the most unattractive one in movie history and the male one the dumbest one. These people are lethargic, show no emotion and have zero sense of urgency when they are supposed to be running for their lives. They also make super dumb decisions, when they first escape the killer's house she runs for the woods but he, instead of following her, stays in the proximity of the killer's house, decides to go snooping in the garage where he could be easily trapped and even turns on a spotlight that would call the killer's attention to his presence there. Then she returns from the woods to join her stupid companion snooping in the garage too!

Their acting is so bad and they have zero chemistry as a couple. The characters are so unsympathetic and their decisions so stupid the viewers are left thinking they should pay the highest price for their stupidity. One of the worst horror movies I have seen. The good reviews are not realistic. Must have been done by friends of the filmmaker.

1 star and that is being kind.

I liked it!

I really liked this film, a lot! I read some of the reviews and I feel they were being very unfair. I applaud indie filmmakers! They put their heart and soul into their work and this film is no different. I thought the cinematography was terrific! I liked the storyline and thought the director did a solid job in telling the story while keeping things moving along. Certainly a thumbs up from me.

A bit too long

Warning: Spoilers
"Edge of dawn" tells the story of a struggling college couple, that crashes into a stranger on their way home and finds itself trapped on a local resident's property, who does everything to get them killed.

The film started strong and I felt like I can easily connect with the characters it provides. The plot is not bad at all and delivers a lot of potential for a good thriller. Unfortunately, at some point it felt a bit like the producers were running out of ideas and just started a hunt that was neither innovative (I can't even count the movies where some innocent guys are chased with a chainsaw), nor realistic (probably one of the slowest attempts to escape in the history of cinema). The whole story could have been told in probably not much more than an hour and the movie had benefited from it, because the positive elements that are without question included would have been closer connected to each other. The lead character was very silent indeed, but that's more a question of taste.

All in all this still is a decent movie and I do think that there's potential for much more recognizable. Still, at some points I would have hoped for less repetitive motives and more room for the plot, maybe having the characters collect more clues or something alike.
