Melbourne-based production company Truce Films has optioned the new book from Graeme Simsion, author of The Rosie Project.
Released as an Audible Original in September, Creative Differences follows the relationship between Emily, an aspiring literary writer, and Scott, a jobbing screenwriter.
Combining his punchy plot and her luminous prose, they crafted an international hit – and fell in love doing it. Three years later, Scott’s subsequent solo novel flops and Emily struggles with her literary manuscript, straining their relationship.
Director Bec Peniston Bird, who recently worked on Jack Irish, is attached to the project. She has previously collaborated with Simsion on short films, and the pair are early readers of each other’s work.
She said the story was well suited to a screen adaptation.

Ben Taylor—a British television director known for his work on Catastrophe—is going to be the latest to try his hand at The Rosie Project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film would adapt Graeme Simsion’s novel about a genetics professor who tries to find the ideal woman using a what he calls the Wife Project, only to fall for a regular person named Rosie. At one point, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were going to make this movie. Then Richard Linklater thought about it. Jennifer Lawrence—if things had worked out—could have been the star.
But THR reports that Taylor will be starting from scratch casting-wise, though he’ll be working from the screenplay by The Fault In Our Stars’ Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who took it on after Simsion did his own pass. Catastrophe is an excellent example of a rom-com with bite ...

Actor Ryan Reynolds is reportedly circling the film adaptation of Graeme Simsion's novel "The Rosie Project" for Sony Pictures.
Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber adapted the romantic dramedy which follows a socially inept genetics professor who comes up with a scientifically sound survey to find the perfect mate. His plans go awry when he meets a woman who, in her whirlwind manner, possesses all the opposite qualities he should be looking for.
Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan are producing the film which previously had lined up Richard Linklater to direct and Jennifer Lawrence to star before both jumped ship.
Reynolds' involvement is dependent upon the scheduling of the "Deadpool" sequel which is the priority and is rumored to begin shooting as early as this Fall says Heroic Hollywood with a very early 2018 release being targeted.
Reynolds is also set to join Jake Gyllenhaal in the Mars mission film "Life" at Sony Pictures.

It hasn’t been the smoothest of rides for Sony’s adaptation of The Rosie Project up until now. Despite attracting two big-name stars in Jennifer Lawrence and Boyhood director Richard Linklater, the romantic drama was ordered back to the drawing board after losing both Lawrence and Linklater in quick succession.
But all is not lost – Deadline brings word that Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds is being eyed to headline the flick, one based on Graeme Simsion’s eponymous novel. Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber are working on the script, with Sony keen to remain largely faithful to Simsion’s acclaimed source material.
That means The Rosie Project will center around a reclusive genetics professor (Reynolds, potentially) who produces a scientifically proven survey that’ll help solve one of his biggest problems: finding a compatible life partner. Jennifer Lawrence isn't the only one to depart the adaptation of Graeme Simsion's The Rosie Project...
The book of The Rosie Project is well worth seeking out. Penned by Graeme Simsion, it's a funny yet intelligent book about a professor who struggles socially, who comes up with a survey to help him find his perfect partner. Enter the Rosie of the title.
The film version has been on the stove for a little while now, with Sony backing the project. And up until the end of last week, it had Jennifer Lawrence starring as Rosie, and Boyhood's Richard Linklater on board to direct. One week later, and they're both gone.
We reported on Lawrence's departure yesterday, as her crowded schedule gave her no room to slot the film in. She left the movie on Monday, and The Hollywood Reporter now adds that director Linklater left on the same day too.

If Sony’s The Rosie Project hit a speed bump yesterday when Jennifer Lawrence departed the project, then the romantic drama is careering straight into troubled waters now that The Hollywood Reporter has revealed director Richard Linklater has followed his former leading lady through the exit door.
Confirmation is only beginning to seep through today, with sources close to Tri-Star’s now-troubled production claiming that both parties bowed out of the film on Monday. In Lawrence’s case, representatives for the actress cite scheduling conflicts as the primary reason, considering that the Oscar-winner is currently shooting Passengers alongside Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt. Couple this with the all-too-brief gap between the starry sci-fi and X-Men: Apocalypse and it’s clear that a much-needed break also filtered into the official decision.

Hot on the heels of Jennifer Lawrence's dropping out, it seems filmmaker Richard Linklater has also exited the romantic dramedy "The Rosie Project" at Tri-Star Pictures.
An adaptation of the book by Graeme Simsion, the story follows a socially inept genetics professor who comes with a survey to find the perfect mate - a method that goes awry when he meets a woman whom he is fascinated by but has the opposite qualities he should be looking for.
'Rosie' was developed as a Lawrence vehicle, and Linklater came on board for a chance to work with the actress. Lawrence's departure is said to be due to scheduling, and both actress and director left the project Monday. The studio still considers it a priority though and will look for a new filmmaker and star immediately.

It’s a good news/bad news day in terms of film projects looking to win the services of Jennifer Lawrence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’s dropped out of The Rosie Project, which Richard Linklater had been developing. And that might have something to do with the fact that Variety has learned she’s in early talks to join Darren Aronofsky’s next film.Aronofsky has been keeping quiet about what his next job might be, though he has several projects in development at any one time. While he’d hoped to make something about a boy whose drawings come to life, he had budget differences with New Regency – which has a first look deal on his potential movies – and decided to move on from it. The new, untitled and mysterious film is now in the planning stages, as the director is aiming to kick off shooting next spring.

Sony’s big-screen adaptation of Graeme Simsion’s romantic novel The Rosie Project has hit a speed bump – The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jennifer Lawrence has exited the in-development drama.
As the outlet notes, this is the second project that the actress has bowed out of recently, after parting ways with Lionsgate’s The Glass Castle. It’s understood that Boyhood helmer Richard Linklater remains attached to The Rosie Project, and the search for a new actress to fill a role said to be tailored for Lawrence begins now.
Scripted by Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, Linklater’s is designed to remain overly faithful to Simsion’s source material, orbiting around a reclusive genetics professor who seems to have hatched a scientifically proven survey to find a compatible life partner. During his research, he crosses paths with a young woman called Rosie Jarman, who effectively upends the professor’s...

Jennifer Lawrence is out of Sony’s “The Rosie Project,” TheWrap has learned. The film, which has Richard Linklater attached to direct, is an adaptation of Graeme Simsion’s best-selling novel. Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, the pair behind indie romance “(500) Days of Summer,” wrote the script. Lawrence entered talks for the projects in July. The story follows a socially inept genetics professor who devises a very detailed survey in order to find the perfect wife. Though she is only 24 years old, Jennifer Lawrence has already had the opportunity to work with some truly amazing directors - and for her next film, The Rosie Project, she may get the chance to add another esteemed name to that list. According to reports, the movie is now eying Boyhood filmmaker Richard Linklater to helm. Deadline has the news on this development, but there's no mention of whether or not an offer has been extended to the Austin-based director yet or if negotiations have begun in earnest yet. Should he sign on, Linklater will be replacing A-listers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who first became attached to The Rosie Project a little less than a year ago, and will be working with a script from duo Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (The Spectacular Now, (500) Days of Summer). Based on the novel of the same name by Graeme Simsion, The...

While The Rosie Project recently found its headlining star in Jennifer Lawrence, Sony has been in search of someone to fill the director's chair following the departure of directorial duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie). According to Deadline, Richard Linklater might be Sony's guy, or at least he is the studio's prime target. amz asin="1476729093" size="small"Adapted from Graeme Simsion's book of the same name, The Rosie Project tells the story of socially-awkward genetic professor Don Tillman, who comes up with a scientifically sound survey to find his perfect mate. Things get more complicated, however, when he meets Rosie Jarman (Lawrence), a woman who doesn't possess any of the qualities he's looking for yet becomes irresistible to him. For anyone who listens to Ted talks as much as I do, the Tillman character sounds an awful lot like a male version of Amy Webb, who...

While Richard Linklater has always bounced back and forth between studio projects and indie movies, you have to go back to 2005's "Bad News Bears" to find his last full-fledged picture for a major Hollywood outlet (not counting indie arms). However, in the wake of the success of "Boyhood," it is interesting to see how the studios are coming back to Linklater. Paramount is distributing this next movie, which was just dated for spring 2016, and now Sony is eyeballing the filmmaker. Deadline reports that Linklater is the frontrunner to direct "The Rosie Project" starring Jennifer Lawrence. Phil Lord and Chris Miller were originally attached before they got too busy conquering Hollywood, and I have to say, this seems a little safe and dull for Linklater. Based on Graeme Simsion's bestselling book, with a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ("The Spectacular Now," "The Fault In Our...

Deadline is reporting today that Boyhood helmer Richard Linklater, nominated for the Best Director Oscar last year, is Sony Pictures’ top pick to direct Jennifer Lawrence in The Rosie Project.
Discussions are just getting under way, but Linklater’s schedule is currently open and the studio has been looking to attract a big name for the gig ever since The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller left the project for a Star Wars spinoff focusing on a young Han Solo.
The adaptation of Graeme Simison’s novel centers on a genetics professor who’s more adept at navigating complex scientific data collections than his social life. When he comes up with a scientific survey designed to find him his perfect mate, the professor believes he’s sidestepped the risks that come with dating.
