The sci-fi thriller Companion is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian… but even though nearly a year has passed since the project assembled its cast and went into production, we still know very little about it. It has managed to stay shrouded in secrecy all this time. Which is a good thing, since its release date is still several months away. Deadline broke the news that Companion won’t be reaching theatres (including IMAX screens) until January 10, 2025.
That release date gives Companion a one week head-start on Blumhouse Productions and director Leigh Whannell’s reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property Wolf Man.
New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film,...

Jay Johnston, an actor on “Bob’s Burgers,” “Arrested Development” and more, was charged by the Department of Justice for participating in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to court documents.
Johnston was arrested Wednesday in California, according to NBC News, which broke the news. He faces charges for felony obstruction of officers during civil disorder, in addition to other misdemeanor offenses.
In March 2021, the FBI tweeted a photo of Johnston in the crowd of rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6 and requested information on his identity. In the court documents, the DOJ identified Johnston via multiple images of him captured on officer body-cam footage, bystander video and CCTV feeds. Johnston could be seen wearing a green camouflage neck gaiter and a dark leather jacket on Capitol grounds. With other rioters, he took a stolen Capitol Police riot shield to create a “shield wall” and push against a line officers.

October is here, which means a bevy of new titles available to watch on HBO and HBO Max. First and foremost, however, we have the highly anticipated “The White Lotus” Season 2, which debuts on Oct. 30 on HBO and will be streaming on HBO Max at the same time. New location, new characters (save for Jennifer Coolidge from Season 1), same music.
Also new this month is the docuseries follow-up “The Vow: Part Two,” further exploring the inner sanctum of Nxivm, which debuts on Oct. 17 on HBO and is streaming on HBO Max the same night. There’s also “Avenue 5” Season 2 on Oct. 10 and the new Chip and Joanna Gaines series “Fixer Upper: The Castle” on Oct. 14 (that one will also debut on Magnolia Network and discovery+ at the same time).
Other noteworthy additions this month include library titles like “Nightcrawler,” “The Witch,” “Terms of Endearment” and the underseen comedy gem “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Things are going pretty, pretty well for HBO and HBO Max at the moment thanks to the smashing success of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. With its list of new releases for October 2022 though, HBO Max appears ready to up the ante even more.
The headlining title on HBO Max this month is undoubtedly The White Lotus season 2 on Oct. 30. Mike White’s freshly-Emmy-winning comedy looked to be a one-off after season 1. But cooler heads prevailed and the series is now returning in an anthology format. What will season 2 look like? Guess we’ll find out when the show checks in to Sicily later this month.
Aside from The White Lotus, HBO also has a few other TV shows of note this month. The torturously titled Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler debuts its third season on Oct. 6. That will be followed by Avenue 5 season 2 on Oct.

Minnie Mouse is, dare I say it, an iconic character. She, Mickey, and all their Disney cartoon pals have been entertaining children for generations.
For decades, Minnie was voiced by Russi Taylor. After Taylor passed in 2019, however, voice actor Kaitlyn Robrock took on the Minnie mantle and is bringing her to life on various shows as well as certain attractions in Disney's theme parks.
Earlier this month, I had the chance to speak with Robrock during Dragon Con, a 65,000-person convention in Atlanta that celebrates fandoms of all kinds, where Robrock was a guest. We talked about how she got into voice acting in general, including her jump from Adult Swim cartoons to Minnie, and what it's like voicing other characters, such as the Tusken raiders on "The Book of Boba Fett."
This interview has been lightly edited for clarity and brevity.

Jay Johnston, who voiced Bob Belcher’s (H. Jon Benjamin) business rival Jimmy Pesto in 43 episodes of Bob’s Burgers, has been sidelined from the Fox animated series due to his alleged involvement in the January 6 Capitol Riot.
The Daily Beast reported Friday about Johnston’s indefinite hiatus from the series. While any possible involvement of Johnston in the events of the 6th is unclear, he’s allegedly seen in multiple photos captured at the scene last year by the FBI. Thus far, the actor has been neither arrested nor charged in connection to the riot.
Sources confirm to Deadline that Johnston, who had been recurring on Bob’s Burgers, has not been brought back to do an episode since Jan. 6, 2021, and there are no plans for his character to be featured in the foreseeable future. Reps for Fox and 20th Television Animation, which produces the series, had no comment.

We now know who will be the new voice of Carl, Homer Simpson’s co-worker at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, on The Simpsons.
Better Things actor Alex Désert replaces Hank Azaria in the role, at least in Sunday’s Season 32 premiere. It’s not known if Désert is the permanent voice for Carl.
The recast follows Fox’s statement in June that white actors would no longer be voicing non-white characters on the hit animated comedy series. Azaria had been the longtime voice of the Black character Carlton Carlson. He also was known for voicing Apu, a character which long has been criticized for portraying a racist depiction of an Indian immigrant. Azaria announced in January that he no longer would voice the character.
Désert also voices Swarm in Disney Xd’s Spider-Man series and Mr. Bojenkins on Adult Swim’s Mr. Pickles and its spinoff, Momma Named Me Sheriff.

“The Simpsons” fans might notice at least one long-running character sounds a little different in Sunday’s Season 32 premiere.
In the episode, Carl Carlson — Homer Simpson’s nuclear plant co-worker, and best friend to Lenny Leonard — is now voiced by actor Alex Désert (“Better Things”). Désert replaces Hank Azaria in the role, at least for that episode.
The switch comes as “The Simpsons” producers confirmed earlier this summer that it would no longer have white actors voice non-white characters. Azaria had voiced Carl, who is Black, since the beginning of the show.
It’s unclear whether Désert is Carl’s permanent voice, and if he’ll be voicing other characters as well. Among other recurring characters the edict might impact include Dr. Julius Hibbert, who is seen in the episode, but doesn’t speak.

Kidding has been nixed at Showtime after two seasons. The half-hour dramedy was a critical hit, but at the end of its sophomore run the Jim Carrey-led series was landing just 54,000 same-day viewers.
Showtime had originally built the project in-house with creator Dave Holstein (I’m Dying Up Here) and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry, and anticipation was high for the show, which marked Carrey’s first real TV dalliance since appearing on In Living Color many, many years ago.

Hollywood is so committed to reboots and remakes that it wouldn’t be surprising if updated takes of Jim Carrey classics like “The Mask” or “Liar Liar” went into production, but there’s one Carrey film the actor thinks might actually work in the present day: “The Truman Show.” Directed by Peter Weir and written by Andrew Niccol, the 1998 comedy-drama starred Carrey as a man who discovers his entire life is being broadcast as a television show. Carrey’s character, Truman Burbank, was raised by a corporation inside a simulated reality series based on his life. For Carrey, the way the world digests media is so drastically different in 2020 than it was in 1998 that a new “Truman Show” movie might be worth exploring.
“I think ‘The Truman Show’ is something that exists on a micro level now,” Carrey told Collider when asked which film of his he’d most like to see brought back.

Exclusive: Quibi has given a series order to Florida Man (working title), a comedy series from Blue Mountain State writers Romanski (aka Chris Romano) and Drew Hancock, and Ace Entertainment.
Written by Hancock and Romano, this outrageous anthology comedy series rips real headlines from insane stories, and tells us the made up tale of how they came to be. Whether it is Florida Man Charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon for Throwing Alligator through Wendy’s Drive-Thru Window or Florida Man with “Do Not Resuscitate” Tattoo Creates Ethical Dilemma for Hospital Staff, these stories can only happen in Florida.
Ace Entertainment’s Matt Kaplan and Spencer Berman executive produce with Jake Szymanski, Dylan Trussell and David Dinetz. Hancock, Romano and Paul Kim co-executive produce. Ace Entertainment is the studio.
Commercial directors Dinetz and Trussell initially conceived the idea for Florida Man.

Showtime's newest series may invoke memories of the iconic Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, but it's definitely not for children. Kidding stars Jim Carrey - in his first series regular role since In Living Color over two decades ago - as Jeff Piccirillo aka "Mr. Pickles," a children's television host. Jeff has performed on Mr. Pickles' Puppet Time for 30 years, and has become the face of a multimillion-dollar branding empire. Similar to Fred Rogers, Mr. Pickles is "a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America's impressionable young minds," who uses stories and puppets to teach children humility and decency in a cruel world.
The drama series, set to premiere on Sept. 9, follows Jeff as he attempts to navigate his work and deal with the imminent implosion of his family. After the death of one of his twin sons, his inability to cope with the aftermath causes friction with his estranged...
