Before there was the no-budget Best Buy scam (scoring equipment by cycling through 30-day return policies) there was the Crazy Eddy scam — same deal, except that instead of the corporate anonymity of Best Buy’s Death Star big box there was a scrappy local circuit embodied by a screaming man feigning mental illness on late-night television. (“These prices are insane!!!!”) And before there was Eater, Grub Street and Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown there was Eat to Win, a kind of punk foodie travelogue in which friends David Shapiro and Leeds Atkinson tooled around New York City with their Crazy Eddie […]...

The horrors of Hollywood strike again. After last years hit Frightfest flick Starry Eyes, which took a very supernatural look at the price of fame; comes 2014′s other L.A. set terror tale, Eat; a more visceral look at the perils of fame and the price people pay in the pursuit of it. Two films which could not be more stylistically opposite yet themetically identical…
Novella McClure is like a lot of struggling actresses in Los Angeles: she’s in her early 30s, her fake name sounded cooler ten years ago, and she hasn t landed a role in three years. To top it all off, she’s developed a disturbing self-harm habit for coping with stress – she bites herself and eats her own flesh.

Tagline: "The Story of a Girl Who Finds Herself - And Then Eats Herself." Eat is a film from Pretty People Pictures. This horror title was recently released through video-on-demand, via Google Play, Amazon and others. In the film, an aspiring actress develops a strange eating disorder, which leaves her in pieces. Eat, from director Jimmy Weber, creates a disturbing tone as the character Novella (Meggie Maddock) gnaws through her own body. She even goes back for seconds and thirds. As well, a trailer for the film was released late last year, but some indie horror fans might have missed it; the clip is hosted below. For more on the story, Novella is facing a stark reality. She is nearing her 30s, in Los Angeles as an acting hopeful. Not likely to act ever again, Novella's desperation turns into anxiety and then into a hunger for human flesh - her own!
