- With Peter in prison facing murder charges and every shred of evidence pointing to him for Senator Pratt's untimely death, Neal must strike a deal with the devil to help try and clear Peter's name.
- Open with Neal visiting Peter in prison. He tells Peter than his father James, the only way to clear his name, has completely disappeared. Later we see Peter get a visit from Jones, who tells him Diana is pregnant.
Six weeks later Neal and Elizabeth talk the day before Peter's indictment hearing. Neal talks about the fact that Peter must be cleared, as if he is indicted he'll never be able to work for the FBI again. She tells him to do what he has to.
Mozzie tells Neal he's found a way to hack his FBI tracking anklet. Neal gets a text from someone wanting to meet at the opera house. It reads: "I can help Burke"
Neal meet with a criminal named Curtis Hagen, himself on work relief from a forgery charge Neal helped put on him. Hagen says he knows how to get Peter off. Hagen says he has a relationship with the federal prosecutor who is going after Peter. He wants Neal to commit a crime for him as payment. Neal also must forge a confession from James so the prosecutor can save face.
Mozzie tells Neal he'll need to use his voice to record the forgery of James' confession.
During the hearing Peter offers to testify on his own behalf but is turned down. The prosecutor plays the forged confession. Since the voice has been authenticated the prosecutor drops all charges and tells Peter he's free to go.
Outside the courthouse Peter is reunited with Elizabeth.
Peter return to the office to a round of applause. He finds Neal in his office and thanks him for locating James and convincing him to make the call. Neal gets a call from Hagen, reminding him that it's time for him to fulfill his side of their agreement.
Section chief Bruce tells Peter he's attracted some attention at the top and is being asked to run the White Collar division. An even bigger promotion to DC potentially around the corner. Preggo Diana shows up and asks Peter if he's going to take the ASAC job. She thinks he should go for it.
Hagen tells Neal the target is Welsh gold coins being held in a vault in the Reinhart Building. They need to be taken in the next two days.
Mozzie is worried about the security in the building. Neal suggests using the fire department and the building next door. He attaches his hacking device to Neal's bracelet. It makes it look to the FBI that Neal's in his apartment, regardless of where he goes. The only catch is that he must be in his apartment to turn it on and off. Peter shows up and tells Neal he's taking the promotion and informs him of the potential move to D.C. This won't impact Neal's deal. Peter tells Neal he's proud of him for not trying to find a loophole in getting him free.
Mozzie pretends to be a jumper on the roof of the building next to the Reinhart. Neal shows up dressed as a fire fighter and rushes into the building. He clears a room and begins axing through the wall. Mozzie talks to the police negotiator while Neal goes through the bricks and blowtorches through the side of the vault. He grabs the coins and puts them in his hollowed-out oxygen tank. Neal shows up to take Mozzie into psychiatric custody. On his way out, one of the other firefighters takes his tank for a routine check. It's put on a truck and taken from the scene.
Neal and Mozzie talk strategy at his apartment. They will wait until the firehouse's next call.
Peter is called in for what will be one last case. To Neal's dismay it's the $2 million in coins Neal just stole.
During the briefing the team realizes (despite Neal trying to throw them off the scent) that the thief came in with the fire department. The plan is to comb through the footage and get a face for the firefighter inexplicably wearing compressed air to a jumper call. Jones is sent to look into the fire departments that took the calls.
Neal calls Mozzie with an update. Mozzie says the fire truck is headed out on a call.
Neal and Peter arrive at the station. Mozzie calls with word that the tank didn't arrive at the call. It is still at the station where Peter is snooping around. Peter goes with the chief while he makes a call looking for approval to show the FBI his tanks. Neal is left downstairs with the rookie, the only person who saw his face at the scene. Neal puts shoe polish on the stove, causing a fire and allowing him time to sneak upstairs. Neal finds the tank and tries to throw it out the window to Mozzie. The tank won't fit, so Neal slides them down one of the hoses. He finishes just in time.
Neal brings Hagen the gold. It turns out Neal was the target all along. Hagen offered him to the prosecutor and hid cameras to capture Neal stealing the coins. Hagen is using Neal to get himself set free. He wants Neal to destroy evidence against him or he'll turn him over to the authorities.
Peter tells Elizabeth he thinks Neal may have figured out a way to crack his ankle bracelet. Peter is aware Neal had a moment alone with the tanks, but can't think of a reason why he would have stolen the coins.
Peter drops by Neal's place and tells him he's picking somebody from outside the office to be his next handler. He thinks everybody in the department is too close to have proper perspective. He brings Neal a brand new anklet with a brand new chip. Neal appears to be able to get Mozzie's device off without Peter noticing.
