Christian Borle improvised a few of his lines throughout the final climax scene.
In order to prepare for her role, Rosie Gunther began smoking some herbal cigarettes a couple of weeks before production so she would be used to it by the time filming occurred.
32 butterflies were purchased and raised by the director's. When filming, they glued the butterflies onto Walsh's finger to ensure they stayed for each shot. For the close-ups, they put some sugar water on Walsh's finger and placed the butterflies on top. Even though the butterflies only stayed on the finger for a couple of seconds when they used the sugar water, it looked much better.
Since their budget was so low, the director's did not have the ability to build a set from the 60's. They were lucky enough to find a house in their hometown, Ridgewood, New Jersey, that hasn't been renovated in quite awhile. They used this house for production since it looked close to a house from the 60's.
The directors were 16 years old when they made the film.
