Feminine Fantastique: Resurrecting 'The Vampire Lovers' (2013)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Fun featurette that can be found on the Shout Factory! Blu-ray of Hammer's THE VAMPIRE LOVERS has interviews with Hammer fans/experts like Ted Newson, David J. Skal, Kim Newman, John-Paul Checkett and Eric Hoffman among others. Even though this clocks in at under ten-minutes there's still some pretty good stuff to be had here including a brief history of the original story that the film is based on and then we get some information on how Hammer ended up doing the picture. The majority of the running time deals with the sexuality and the nudity in the film but can you blame everyone for talking about this? It's interesting hearing the various comments about the sexuality in the film and including some discussion of what the director thought about the lesbianism in the film. Hoffman even tells some fairly funny stories of what it was like seeing this as a young person. Fans of THE VAMPIRE LOVERS will certainly want to check this out, although it's a shame it didn't run a bit longer.
