- TriviaInspired by Stephen King's book "Needful Things". Mr. Needful's shop is called Needful Things and the idea of a shop of items that pertain to the heart's desires but come with an extra price, was taken from the plot of the book.
- Quotes
Rick: Cute. Your sister's boss gave me a microscope that would have made me retarded.
Morty: Ooo, oh boy Rick, I-I don't think you're allowed to say that word. Ya know?
Rick: Uh Morty, I'm not disparaging the differently abled. I'm stating the fact that if I had used this microscope it would have made me mentally retarded.
Morty: Ok but yeah, I don't think it's about logic, Rick. I-I think the word has just become a symbolic issue for powerful groups that feel like they're doing the right thing.
Rick: Well that's retarded.

Summer (Spencer Grammer) takes a job working at a mysterious new shop in town, run by Mr. Needful (Alfred Molina). The store offers items that grant mysterious powers but comes with a terrible cost. Annoyed by the hackneyed premise, Rick (Justin Roiland) vows to destroy him. Meanwhile, Jerry's (Chris Parnell) insistence that Pluto is still a planet brings him to the attention of Pluto's King, who begins to use him for his own political ends.
Love the Premise of the main story in this episode. Rick destroying the evil, for no real reason other than boredom is fantastic and executed really well, right up to the point he burns his own store down the moment he's won. Alfred Molina is an excellent guest voice too. The idea that most stores are inherently evil in some way or another works really well too. The late coda, or Rick and Summer buffing up and beating him up isn't quite as successful, particularly as it's not followed through on in later episodes.
Jerry and Morty's story is good too, with the shows other guest star Rich Fulcher as King Flippy Nips providing another vocal highlight.
Brilliant episode.
