Warner Bros. Discovery kept up with TV upfronts week’s biggest trend at their presentation out of The Theater at Madison Square Garden Tuesday: Promoting not just its TV slate as a prime ad-buying opportunity — but also its film franchises.
First up from CEO David Zaslav’s team, WB Discovery revenue and strategy chief Bruce Campbell addressed the Madison Avenue crowd following a sizzle featuring top Wbd IP and brands across film and TV series. Then Mindy Kaling took the stage to promote her Max comedy “The Sex Lives of College Girls” before introducing HBO and Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys.
“I know when you look at me, you see a young, beautiful mother,” Kaling said. “The truth is I am an old Max veteran. I was here way back when Max was HBO Max, it was this whole other thing. It was just me, ‘Tom & Jerry’ reruns...

“House of the Dragon” stars Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy have started the promotional train for Season 2 of the “Game of Thrones” spinoff by gracing the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest digital issue, but they’re still somewhat haunted by one insanely viral moment from their Season 1 press tour. That would be the Negroni Spagliato meme.
It all started when Cooke and D’Arcy were flown from San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022 to San Francisco to shoot promos for “House of the Dragon.” HBO tasked the two actors with asking each other questions on video. Cooke told EW they “were put into this room and we were just so jet-lagged,” and the viral moment was born when Cooke asked D’Arcy the following question: “What’s your drink of choice?”
“Negroni Spagliato with prosecco in it,” D’Arcy answered, which prompted Cookie to let out in her Greater Manchester accent:...

Dune: Part Two has been available to purchase on Digital services for almost a month now, but Warner Bros. has finally announced a streaming date for Denis Villeneuve's critically-acclaimed sci-fi sequel.
Fans will get to return to Arrakis from the comfort of their couches very soon, as Dune: Part Two is set to premiere on Max next Tuesday, May 21.
Although the movie didn't reach $1 billion as some predicted (always a long shot in the current box office climate), it did pass $700 million worldwide, meaning a third film based on Frank Herbert's second novel, Dune: Messiah, is likely.
Part Three hasn't been officially greenllt, but is believed to be in the early stages of development - though there's no guarantee that Villeneuve will to return to complete the trilogy.
“If we go back, it needs to be real, it needs to be relevant," the filmmaker told Empire in a recent interview.

“House of the Dragon” Season 2 is about to soar onto screens soon.
After Season 2 was first unveiled at Ccxp in Sao Paolo in December 2023 with a teaser, and later released viral dueling trailers, the season of the dragon is almost upon audiences. Season 2 will not have a time jump like in Season 1, and instead solely focus on former besties turned step-family Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) as they both battle for the Iron Throne.
Per the official synopsis, after the death of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine), an undeniable rift has grown between his daughter Rhaenyra (D’Arcy) and wife Alicent (Cooke), after their close friendship as teenagers. A rift that’s now a full-blown civil war.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” and is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

In the age of streaming services, finding the right platform is a tough challenge. While a few years ago many people were content with Netflix alone, now many high-profile projects are landing on many other services, new and old. Of course, it's ridiculous to subscribe to literally every video-on-demand platform out there, and if you're wondering which one to try (or which subscription to renew this year), we highly recommend you consider Hulu.
Disney-owned Hulu launched back in 2007, but it's grown to incredible proportions in recent years, offering subscribers top-notch scripted shows that can easily compete with the hits on Netflix, Max, Apple TV+, Disney+, and even traditional TV networks. HBO’s The Last of Us broke the streak of unsuccessful video game adaptations and proved that games can be smoothly translated into other media. “Mad Max” superfan and creator of the “Metal Gear” and “Death Stranding” video game series Hideo Kojima has seen the new film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and his reaction does not disappoint. Posting to X, formerly known as Twitter, Kojima released pictures of himself from the theater — his eyes misty from the experience.
“Witnessed ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga!’ Kojima said in his post. “This movie, which easily surpasses ‘Mad’ and even past ‘Fury’, is at its ‘Max’ (masterpiece)! Ever since I saw the first film when I was 16 years old, George Miller has saved me, encouraged me, and changed my way of life countless times. He is my God, and the Saga that he tells is my Bible.”
This is not the first time Kojima has expressed his adulation for maestro George Miller. Back when they met in 2015, he said, “My games were made with a lot of genes inherited from George Miller.

Needless to say, the actor’s portrayal of the character was a huge reason behind the success of the films.

Whoopi Goldberg was the latest guest on “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” on Max and was asked about what it’s been like co-hosting ABC’s “The View” for the last 17 years. The Egot winner joined the daytime franchise in 2007. Asked by Wallace if she still likes hosting the program, Goldberg acknowledged that it was a better gig back in the day when people did not automatically weaponize everything she said.
“I liked it better before because there was not … people didn’t didn’t assume that you were starting out to be nasty or horrible or saying stuff,” Goldberg said. “You used to say something and somebody would say, ‘Well, actually, that’s not so.’ And you could make that adjustment. Or you could say, ‘Well, here’s what … this is why I thought about it this way.’ You can’t do that anymore. Nobody wants to hear what you were thinking.

Warner Bros. Discovery has pulled back on kids and family content in recent years, making a partnership with Disney a perfect fit.
Two decades ago, the question of how you got your entertainment was a much easier one to answer. Warner Bros. Discovery closed out the round of quarterly earnings reports from companies that own top streaming services in the United States on Thursday. The company’s executives held their annual conference call to discuss Wbd’s earnings with Wall Street analysts Thursday morning and revealed that it had gained 2.0 million global streaming subscribers during the quarter.
As is always the case, Wbd declined to break out how many subscribers were on Max and discovery+ individually. But it did tell analysts that its domestic streaming customer base had risen by 700,000 customers to hit 52.7 million. Its new global total is 99.6M, up from the 97.7 million the company claimed following the conclusion of 2023.

Netflix’s new black dramedy continues to reign supreme in the platform’s global chart, even though it was aired almost a month ago. Baby Reindeer, following Richard Gadd's real-life experience of being stalked and sexually assaulted in his twenties, gained recognition for artful and razor-sharp exploration of the socially painful issues.
However, 4 years ago HBO already released the miniseries, quite reminiscent of Baby Reindeer. Its decent score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and the audience’s extreme excitement are fair reasons to recall it and to compare it to the recently hyped show.
The plot of the 2020 series revolves around the young writer Arabella, who gets sexually assaulted in a nightclub. After such a devastating incident she starts to reassess all aspects of her life, including her family, career and relationships, to rebuild them.
Just like Richard Gadd's show, it blends dark humor and deep drama, demonstrating the traumatic experience of the assaulted people.

Warner Bros. Discovery officials warned us it was coming, and now it’s about to arrive. On Wednesday, reports emerged that Wbd’s streaming platform Max was set to raise its price at some point in 2024, as CEO David Zaslav continues to try and dig out from a $40 billion mountain of debt. The Streamable has been tracking the price of a Max subscription since the streamer originally launched as HBO Max in 2020, and we have come to an expert opinion on how much we think you’ll have to pay for the streamer when the price goes up; we’ve also assembled a number of lower-cost alternatives if the rate hike is too much for your budget.

There’s a first-look photo from “Presumed Innocent” that’s so evocative you’d assume it was planned. In the image from the Apple TV+ series, which premieres June 12, Jake Gyllenhaal stands in a courtroom looking distraught. His hands are clasped in front of his rumpled shirt, and at first glance, it looks like he’s been handcuffed by the policeman who’s hooking his arm. That’s a solid visual metaphor for a story about a man being prosecuted for murder.
But while it’s the stuff of a publicist’s dreams, the photograph was a happy accident. “I was plunked down on the floor, and it was just the luck of me capturing the stuff that was unfolding around me,” said unit photographer Michael Becker. “Sometimes, you get lucky enough to capture a moment that draws you into what’s going on.”
That’s how it goes in his business.

You may not see it that often, but something like this does exist. It’s been only several days since HBO’s comedy drama show Hacks starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder got its third season released, but it already caught a wow score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, a third one in a row.
While the brand new season features only two first episodes with more coming to the platform on May 9, the rating has now lowered to 97%, but it’s still more than most of the hyping shows can boast of these days.
Launched back in 2021, Hacks hasn’t gone very viral in the media since then, yet managed to land with impressive results that don’t seem to lose ground anytime soon.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is changing vehicles.
The legendary racer will leave NBC Sports’ NASCAR team, where he has held forth as a color commentator since 2018, in favor of lending his expertise to both Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon. The two companies struck new pacts with the racing league last year in agreements that spread NASCAR properties around the media landscape. NASCAR remains with both its current rightsholders, NBC and Fox.
At Warner, Earnhardt will serve as an on-air commentator for TNT Sports’ exclusive coverage of five NASCAR Cup Series races each Summer, airing in consecutive weeks on TNT and the B/R Sports Add-On on Max. He will also contribute to a new Bleacher Report series distributed across the outlet’s social and digital platforms. Robert Downey Jr. has been instrumental in building the MCU and making it what it is today. Downey Jr.’s Iron Man was the first character that Marvel Studios kicked off within their planned cinematic universe. The character became the leader of the Avengers and also dealt with some personal issues and complexities within him in his solo films as well.

Ryan Gosling mesmerized everyone at the the prestigious 96th Academy Awards with his iconic performance of I’m Just Ken, a song from Greta Gerwig’s 2023 film, Barbie. The performance was spellbinding as it left everyone at the ceremony grooving to the mellifluous voice of the Blue Valentine actor. Safe to say, that the actor had stole the show on the Oscars stage by being Ken.

Chris Hemsworth wanted to go “mad” years ago, before his Marvel reign had gotten off the ground.
The “Thor” actor revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he actually auditioned to play Mad Max in 2015’s “Fury Road.” Now, he stars in the upcoming prequel film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” playing villain Dementus.
Hemsworth tried to audition for George Miller’s “Fury Road” shortly after parting ways with Australian soap series “Home and Away” but he”couldn’t even get a call or a meeting or anything” about playing Mad Max.
“I just hadn’t done enough to warrant that,” Hemsworth said. And while Tom Hardy landed the part, Hemsworth was even more determined to work with director Miller after watching the completed film…and having had his own career soar thanks to the MCU.

If you were a fan of The Vampire Diaries back when it was a weekly show, you need to get at least a few hours of mandatory free therapy, because this show was a lot to take in. Based on the novel series by L.J. Smith, the show took both the supernatural horror and relationship drama aspects to a whole new level.
Though many viewers who aren't afraid to revisit the show now look at main protagonist Elena Gilbert through the prism of life experience and can forgive her a good portion of all her missteps, some crimes are harder to forget. The Elena-centrism of the traumatic episode with Alaric and Jo's wedding is one of them.

House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel series that debuted on HBO and Max in 2022 and is returning soon, focuses on House Targaryen, generations before the events of the original Game of Thrones series.
They are, of course, the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), one of the main characters on Game of Thrones, whose series-long plot was about wanting to recapture her family's throne.
While House of the Dragon focuses on that particular family, we did get occasional glimpses of other familiar houses in the first season of that show, including the Baratheons. Also, there are fleeting mentions of Houses such as Arryn and Stark.
While the members of House Stark were among the most important characters throughout Game of Thrones, none of the Starks were major characters In the first season of House of the Dragon.

While Hollywood has several incredible horror features already, a yet-to-be-released horror movie promises no less than a thrilling horror experience by taping into the essence of Tom Cruise’s one of the most iconic movies. Directed, written, and co-produced by Zach Cregger, Weapons, is being described as tonally similar to Cruise’s 1999 drama film Magnolia.

Although, the movie’s prospects certainly seem high already, what makes it even more thrilling is that similar to Cruise’s epic, Weapons too appears to be eyeing an incredible cast. After roping in the likes of Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich is the newest edition to the cast.

Halle Berry became a big name after a string of supporting roles in the 90s with the superhero film X-Men in 2000. Berry starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in the film, and her role as Jinx was different from others in the past as she helped move the plot instead of being reduced to a damsel in distress. However, Berry faced an embarrassing moment during an intimate scene with Brosnan in the film.

Zach and Tori Roloff are moving on. The longtime Little People, Big World cast members have left the TLC reality series. The couple said their goodbyes in the show’s season 25 finale on April 23.
Zach and Tori Roloff quit ‘Little People, Big World’
Zach and Tori confirmed their Lpbw exit in a February episode of their podcast, Raising Heights.
“We are not [coming back] … This last cycle was rough between the family, the farm deal and we’re done with that. We’ve moved on,” Zach said, referring to his dispute with his dad, Matt Roloff, over the sale of the family farm.
In what was presumably their final scene for the show, Zach and Tori reflected on their new life in Washington State, where they live in a large house on 2 acres of land with their three kids: Jackson, 6, Lilah, 4, and Josiah, 23 months. The family previously lived in Portland, Ore.

A bearded geek with glasses and a funny cap created the main fantasy saga of the 21st century, which approached the level of cult status of The Lord of the Rings. George R.R. Martin himself has always been a huge fan of J. R.R. Tolkien.
However, he draws inspiration not only from the pages of dusty fantasy novels, but also from movies and TV series. Martin, a screenwriter himself, wrote several episodes for The Twilight Zone in the 1980s, and the number of his unrealized TV projects is simply too many to count.
George R.R. Praises Six Feet Under’s Finale
Martin shared his favorite TV episodes on his blog, and the drama Six Feet Under, it’s final episode in particular, received special praise:
“[…] that last episode was far and away the best finale in the entire history of television, and I cannot imagine how anyone could possibly do better.

Right from the get-go, Stranger Things captivated its audience entirely. Much like Vecna, the series has enchanted its fans, ensuring they return whenever they are in need of some spine-tingling entertainment. The sci-fi horror drama is nearing its conclusion, with the highly anticipated fifth and final season set to debut on Netflix next year.
Netflix’s Stranger Things
And if the reports are true, Stranger Things season 5 is bringing a renowned filmmaker out of “retirement” – Frank Darabont. If you didn’t already know, the man is responsible for helming one of the finest films in Hollywood, The Shawshank Redemption. Having him direct a few episodes of Stranger Things would be a move in the show’s favor. However, his fans don’t seem too excited about this alleged job.

In 2002, Training Day costars Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke were Oscar-nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. Washington won, Hawke did not, losing to Jim Broadbent for his role in Iris.
Hawke said Washington provided some sage advice after he lost.
“You don’t want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award’s status,” Hawke quoted Washington during his appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on Max. “That’s the way he thinks, and that’s what I’m talking about playing with Babe Ruth.”
The latter reference comes from Hawke previously comparing acting with Washington to what it would be like to play baseball with all-time baseball great Ruth. “I think when all is said and done, he’s the greatest actor of our generation,” Hawke said. “The Academy Award has more power because Denzel has a couple. It didn’t elevate who he was.
