Interesting premise with some distracting turns

Maybe someone else's s review will be able to answer some of the questions that leave us puzzled after watching this film. Matteo wants to kill himself, but rather do it in the lonely, depressing way, he turns it into a party, inviting his friends and family to come say goodbye on October 27. His family think he's joking and no one takes him seriously or helps him, except for a very nice woman who works for a funeral company. She helps him order bizarre things like a red coffin, and they become friends. The director doesn't make it clear if this woman believes Matteo will really kill himself, or if she thinks he is eccentric. She is much younger, but in many scenes, it seems she's attracted to him, even asking him to lunch one day. Feeling sorry for a lonely old man, or actually romantically interested. We just don't know. At the end, it seems like his death wish succeeds, but it's hard to believe it would work accurately because he rigged a very complicated device. A gun is fired, but we don't see if Matteo is hit. In the next scene, he is posing for a photo with his family. So we have to assume he is still alive.
