Hoyos joins Scott Adkins and Marko Zaror in the film directed by Ernesto Díaz Espinoza’s.
It was announced today that Daro Distribution has also acquired world rights to the pic with the exclusion of North America, Latin America, Asia, Airlines, and the Middle East which Film Mode is representing on behalf of co-producer Agora Films. The film is being prepped for release later this year. Daro’s President Pierre-Andre Rochat has joined as executive producer.
Film Mode Entertainment and Wonder Street are co-producing with a script written by Mat Sansom. Producers are Craig Baumgarten, Clay Epstein, Adkins, and Marco Zaror. The film recently wrapped principal photography and is currently in post-production.
The film follows Kris Chaney (Adkins) who, after being released from prison, embarks on a perilous mission to fulfill an old promise but finds himself in danger when he kidnaps Elisa, the daughter of a powerful gangster. Her father, Vincent, puts out a call to the entire criminal underworld to bring her back alive. El Corvo (Zaror), a psychopathic killer, joins the hunt not for the money but for his own vendetta against Vincent’s family. Spotify’s 2023 Wrapped has arrived, and with it, a slew of stats and data on 2023 in music. The headliner? Taylor Swift, who was the platform’s most-streamed artist of the year, a feat that will earn her over $100 million.
On Wednesday, November 29th, Spotify unveiled that Swift had generated 26.1 billion streams over the year, in part thanks to the releases of her 2022 album, Midnights, her 2023 re-releases, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version), and her ongoing “Eras Tour.” Each of those releases racked up hundreds of millions of streams, and now, her year-end stats blow every other artist in Spotify history out of the water — in 2022, when Bad Bunny broke the previous record for most-streams in a year, he only brought in around 18.5 billion.
According to Billboard, the streams Swift can already account for will likely bring in around $97 million — add in the streams she’ll get in December,...

Swifties have done it again. In the latest sign of their appreciation and devotion to Taylor Swift, a group of Brasilian Swifties have successfully lobbied local officials in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate the arrival of the pop star and her “Eras Tour” with a special projection onto the city’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue.
The announcement was made on Thursday, as the city’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, confirmed that they would “properly honor” Swift’s presence with the projection, comparing her to a modern day Michael Jackson or Madonna. “Welcome, Taylor Swift, and stay happy, Swifties,” he said.
Swift landed in Brasil on Thursday, and is scheduled to perform three shows in Rio de Janeiro, after which she’ll head down to São Paulo for three more dates.

Two members of the original “True Detective” team are reuniting at a new home, but they’re leaving the franchise behind. Series creator and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto has signed a new overall deal with Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions, while his fellow “True Detective” collaborator Matthew McConaughey also signed a first-look deal with FX Productions. Together, they’ll make “Redeemer,” an hourlong drama series starring McConaughey and written by Pizzolatto, which has landed a script-to-series deal at FX.
Pizzolatto was previously under an overall deal at HBO, but his move away from the network doesn’t signal the end of “True Detective.” Though HBO has not provided comment on how the creator’s departure would impact the franchise, Deadline reported that HBO executives may be open to bringing on a new creative team if the network decides to proceed with Season 4.

Matthew McConaughey is reuniting with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto for a new crime drama at FX.
McConaughey is attached to lead the cast of Redeemer, which has scored a script-to-series commitment at the cabler, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Patrick Colman’s 2019 novel The Churchgoer, Redeemer centers on a “minister-turned-dissolute security guard whose search for a missing woman in Texas leads him through a corruption-steeped criminal conspiracy, as his past and present impact and entwine around a mystery of escalating violence and deceit,” according to the logline.
The project marks Pizzolatto’s first project as part of his new overall deal with Fox 21 TV Studios and FX Productions.
"We are thrilled to begin our creative partnership with Nic Pizzolatto and Matthew McConaughey on Redeemer, who are back together for the first time since the first season of HBO’s True Detective,” said FX Entertainment president Eric Schrier.

The True Detective season 1 alums are working on a new case for FX.
FX must have asked the right questions when the cable network took a meeting with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto and season 1 star Matthew McConaughey. The showrunner and leading man are set to team up once more for a new drama on FX titled Redeemer, created by Pizzolatto and inspired by Patrick Colman's novel The Churchgoer.
As part of the pact, Pizzolatto is moving his overall deal from HBO to FX, where he’ll create and produce new projects for the network. The development will likely end Pizzolatto’s roller coaster three-season tenure as showrunner and writer of True Detective, however the door is still open for HBO to continue the series under new creative leadership.
In a sense, Redeemer will return McConaughey and Pizzolatto, who will both executive produce the series, to familiar haunts.

Creator Nic Pizzolatto has left HBO for FX, leaving a prospective True Detective Season 4 in serious jeopardy.
True Detective Season 3 had something unusual for the HBO anthology series: a kind of happy ending! But will the True Detective franchise itself follow suit and get a happy ending of its own? In other words - will we get a True Detective Season 4? Unfortunately, that prospect is not looking so good in light of recent news.
Nearly a year after it was last on the air, we now know something about the still-hypothetical fourth season of True Detective – it would move forward without its creator, showrunner, Nic Pizzolatto!
Indeed, the sly foxes of FX have poached Pizzolatto away from his existing overall deal with HBO (which was purportedly worth around $3 million), and, by virtue of that, True Detective. His new deal – with Fox 21 TV Studios and FX Productions...

Hot is a comic yet ultimately devastating look at an apocalyptic future Los Angeles torn apart by a dangerous virus, most of its victims left unconscious to die slowly. For my money, there are two truly amazing, ass-kicking action flicks that came out of 2014 and wouldn’t you know, neither of them are from the United States. One of them is the Indonesian sequel called The Raid 2 and the other is the Chilean film called Redeemer, written and directed by Ernesto Diaz Espinoza. If you enjoy your action fast-paced and in your face, then this is a must-see movie starring Marko Zaror as Pardo, a top former hit man for a drug cartel who has gone rogue, taking down bad guys and wrong-doers in an effort to redeem himself for his past sins in hopes of one day seeing his wife and unborn child in Heaven, both of whom were murdered by a rival assassin known as Scorpion, played by José Luís Mósca.

Ernesto Diaz Espinoza has long been a favorite director in the Twitch world. His impressive ability to keep the action flowing while dabbling in different subgenres has always been commendable. In Mirageman, Diaz Espinsoza married lo-fi action with the tropes of the super hero story. In Mandrill, it was the spy genre. And in Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman, the Chilean director turned things in a decisively more female orientation with this exploitation spectacular. The director returns with Redeemer - a movie that is not only another foray into a new action subgenre - this the Mma-inspired martial arts actioner, but it also marks the return of his action muse. If you missed Marko Zaror during his absence from Machine Gun...

Redeemer marks the fourth collaboration between director Ernesto Díaz Espinoza and martial artist Marko Zaror, and is considered by the director himself as his most serious movie, since it accompanies its carefully choreographed and violent as hell fights with a dark story about a former hitman with many sins to pay for. After Redeemer played at Fantaspoa 2015, I had the chance to talk with Díaz Espinoza for some minutes about Zaror, his influences for this movie and even the references he makes to Mexican violence. After working several times with Marko Zaror, which were your main challenges to make something better and not repeat yourselves? Ernesto Díaz Espinoza: For the martial arts it was exploring new techniques, adding Jujitsu, mixed martial arts and being more...

Mirageman and Mandrill director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza is having himself quite a year with the premieres of both Redeemer - his latest collaboration with frequent star Marko Zaror - and his long in post action-comedy Santiago Violenta. The story of three friends drawn into a violent caper, Santiago Violenta hits Chilean screens January 1st which means - you guessed it - a new poster and trailer. No subtitles on this one but plenty of piscolas (a local adult beverage) and pistolas (a local lethal weapon) to keep things interesting. Check it out below....

Exclusive: Here’s a first look at Redeemer, the Chilean action pic starring martial artist Marko Zaror that could help seal the imposing 6’3″ martial artist as the next international action star to watch. The Undisputed III and Machete Kills thesp stars as a brooding former cartel hitman who makes a promise to God to hunt down his former bosses and does so, in a hail of bullets and kicks to the head.
Exec producers and sales co. Xyz Films brought the pic to Afm where Mpi’s Dark Sky Films took North American rights in a deal announced yesterday. The action-heavy teaser trailer should help spark international sales for the Spanish language actioner, which showcases a sampling of Zaror’s impressive physicality (the film includes some scenes in English, courtesy of Looper‘s Noah Segan as an entitled American wannabe drug lord).

My first journey to Austin, TX and the geek holy land of Fantastic Fest was a whirlwind. Book ended with exhausting, 14 hour drives, the trip as a whole was just mind blowing, inspiring, and so much fun. Bonding with new and old friends, finding some of your personal heroes in the crowd to say hello and snap a picture with, and being able to brag about seeing things before anyone in the rest of the world is but a fraction of the magic. There’s also the Alamo Drafthouse itself which was the newly renovated flagship South Lamar location. This place was like a dream come true for me! The sound system and picture quality in every theater was among the best I’ve seen outside of an IMAX, and every movie was extremely loud like they should always be. There was an amazing swarm of a wait staff to...

[Now with English subtitles.] It's been a busy time for Chilean writer-director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza. Just last month Espinoza had the world premiere of Redeemer - his latest collaboration with martial artist Marko Zaror - at Fantastic Fest while just weeks later his latest non-Zaror film, Santiago Violenta, also had its world premiere as part of the Valdivia Festival, where it took the audience award as the best Chilean film.A comedy infused throwback to the Italian cop films of the 1970s, revolving around a group of movie obsessed friends forced to take an all too real detour into a life of crime, this promises to be stylish fun. Though there are still three months left in the year and To Kill a Man has already been chosen for the Oscars as the Chilean representative (and rightfully so) I might say that the latest film by action-oriented director Ernesto Díaz Espinoza is the best Chilean film of 2014.This is a different sort of film from the Fantastic Film Festival favorite director, who doesn't play it entirely straight and serious like in his recent Redeemer - also shown at this year's Valdivia Film Festival, but Out of Competition - but filmed in a much more clean way, without the obvious references to genre and exploitation cinema that have driven much of his earlier work. Though still somewhat a love letter to the crime pictures made...

I’m writing this review at the expense of having actor/badass extraordinaire Marko Zaror hunt me down and beat my face into a bloody pulp, as he could do with both hands and feet tied behind his back, but something about Redeemer just doesn’t resonate with the B-Movie action nut that lives inside me, feeding off beef jerky and the tears of my foes. Redeemer is full-throttle action, I won’t argue that, but it feels a tad-bit undercooked, packing a whole host of ruthless butt-kicking into a movie that doesn’t cue proper plotting to support such bloodshed. Opening up with a cheeky homage to A Clockwork Orange and a synth-pop remix of Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down,” the action sequences grow tiresome after slowly devolving into a superhero-like film where the main character can do no wrong, as Zaror throws around goons like lifeless mannequins.

I'm a couple days into my tenth Fantastic Fest, and it's easy to see why I keep coming back. Before the fest even officially starts, there are parties at Pinballz and Peter Pan Putt-Putt and barbecue with friends arriving from around the world.
Day One began with Kevin Smith rapping with Tim League backed by dozens of people in eyeball costumes. It ended with a food fight free-for-all of which I saw only the aftermath: League in a cheeky Carmen Miranda outfit and dozens of people soaked and slathered in every sort of slop.
In between, there was a walrus Freaky Friday (Tusk), an Australian Inception Realiti), and Cub Scout Carnage (Cub).
Day Two was a full slate with Jacky in the Kingdom of Women, the Marko Zaror action flick Redeemer, James Gunn-produced horror The Hive, and surreal comic Free Fall. In between these movies, I visited Devin Steuerwald's...

Fantastic Fest may be a festival focused on off-the-radar genre films from here and abroad, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for recognizable Hollywood faces. They’ve just announced their second wave of titles playing this year, and while it’s heavy on unfamiliar foreign titles there are a few heavy hitters in there too. One of last year’s highlights was the presence of Keanu Reeves who there with his directorial debut, the surprisingly fun Man of Tai Chi, but also took time out to participate in the Fantastic Debates. He’s returning again this year, and while he didn’t direct John Wick it promises to be a rollicking action flick all the same thanks to Reeves’ clear love of the genre and the co-directors vast experience in the stunt game. Jake Gyllenhaal won’t be making an appearance, but his fantastically dark-looking new film, Nightcrawler...
