Living from the heart

Would that we all had something we loved doing as much as the participants in this uplifting documentary. With advancing age being a challenge for all of us, these opera singers have a secret to joyful navigation through it, and it will uplift the viewer, too. The filmmaker has a tender feel for how special these people are, and for making a subject interesting that most people pay little attention to. I would have loved going to their playground when it was happening! How delightful a way to go out to dinner it would have been. There are some wonderful singers here, so listening to darn good opera goes along with feeling for how these old-timers have been doing in this trip into a culture they are part of.

A combination of heart, friendship and beautiful voices

Really enjoyed this film. A combination of heart, friendship and beautiful voices. You are immediately drawn into the world of a group of seniors that have found a way to continue their passion of performing opera. It doesn't matter that they are not on a big stage or any stage for that matter - what matters is that they are still doing what they love. I fell in love with this unique group of friends, and you will too. Sprinkled in with some youngsters, they are at all different stages of life. And you don't have to be a fan of opera - just a fan of passion. Very touching...see how important music is at any age.

Definitely Worth Watching

I happened to catch "Sing Your Own Song: An Opera Love Story" at the Long Beach Indie International Film Festival. It was well-done and very entertaining. The filmmaker does a nice job drawing us in to the world of opera through this microcosm of passionate performers. I enjoyed seeing how this multi-generational community of opera singers was like a big family getting together for Sunday dinner. I have never attended an opera (or even listened to opera before) but this film definitely made me want to. I thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming story. I would highly recommend it to others - especially viewers that enjoy cultural and music documentaries.

Love comes in many forms, don't mis this heartfelt expression of love for opera

This is such a wonderful story of "groupies" dedicated to the opera world, following a bevy of beloved opera singers appearing in local restaurant. There is joy, passion, love and sadness expressed by the singers, felt by the audience. It is a tour de force, captured expertly by Anne O'Neal, the very passionate and hands-on film maker. It is a testament to loyalty by the appreciative audiences, following their cherished singers to many places over many, many years. It is a testament to joy - the joy that music instills in your heart and makes it sing, at any age! Don't miss this insightful love story into the world of opera, including singers who have never been exposed to opera before and suddenly discovering a great passion for it. Treat yourself to an enchanting 'love story', sit back and enjoy the musical ride.

Excellent Documentary

I really enjoyed this documentary. It is both heartwarming and beautiful. Not having much experience with opera, it gave me a whole new appreciation and passion for this wonderful music. I now find myself listening to this amazing music and I'm grateful to have discovered a whole new love for opera! This group of extremely talented opera lovers have been singing together for close to 50 years. They are such characters and some of them are in their 90's! It shows the magic of music is ageless and timeless! Their passion is addicting and you really get to know them. Watch this film! I'm sure you'll love it as much as I did. Anne O'Neal did an amazing job! I can't wait to see her next project!
