- Based on a true story and biographical references, FAREWELL (2014) is a Brazilian feature film, written and directed by the filmmaker Marcelo Galvão and produced by Gatacine Produções. The film tells the story of Admiral (Nelson Xavier), a man who was always very active and a bon vivant in the past but began to face a series of difficulties due to old age, despite the youthful spirit and relentless libido. At the age of 92, he is fully aware of his fragility, which makes simple daily tasks like getting out of bed, putting on a shoe and crossing the street, a big challenge. One day, he decides to go out, resolve his pending issues and fulfill the desire to see one last time the great love of his life, his mistress (Juliana Paes), a woman who is 55 years younger and madly in love with him. This is Gatacine's sixth feature film and the first in which Marcelo Galvão had the chance to explore a whole new theme, romance. Very different from Galvão's other films, FAREWELL shows that when it comes to dreaming and loving, age is not an issue. Farewell talks about true love, without limits or discrimination. A unique film that through editing and the protagonist's performances it allows us to see it through a new light, not only as mere spectators but also as characters ourselves", highlights the director.
