Here's a short from Centron which covers some basic advice on how to buy food on a budget. To a modern, affluent audience, or someone who has never been confronted with more food shopping issues than asking "What's for dinner?" it may seem humorous. Indeed, there's little doubt in my mind that some of the humor, like the hungry husband sent out to buy "What looks good" was intentionally meant to be amusing. One of the basic rules is to never shop when you are hungry, and certainly knowing how to shop is a skill in and of itself. The fact that we rarely receive formal instruction in it is besides the point.
But I do think that director Herk Harvey knew what he was doing when he offered these sly, straight-faced observations.
