  Dr. Jonathan Crane : Kill him, and you martyr him, you make him a legend. But break him, humiliate him, terrify him, and hold him up for the world to see. Then he's nothing but a man.

  Arkham Knight : Look, you can do what you want, Crane. But when you're done, I *will* kill him.

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : Very well. But know this: it'll be an act of mercy when you do.

• Batman : You're trapped. There's nowhere to run.

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : Who said anything about running?

• [Scarecrow is holding Barbara hostage] 

  G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon : Let her go!

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : You both still have a part to play.

  G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon : We had a deal!

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : [laughs]  Once I understood your greatest fear, controlling you was simple. You blame yourself for her condition. You need to protect her, but buried deep down is the inevitability that you will one day fail. And that fear makes you mine.

  [Gordon aims his gun at Scarecrow] 

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : Think very carefully about your next move, Commissioner. Her life depends on it.

  [Gordon turns and shoots Batman in the chest, sending him tumbling off the roof] 

  Barbara Gordon : Dad, no!

• Dr. Jonathan Crane : Looking for someone? You should know by now that no where is safe. The commissioner was so eager to betray you earlier when his daughter's life depended on it, and now, I have your Robin. The caged bird. Fascinating that your fears would drive you to lock your closest ally in a prison cell. Now those same fears will make you do as I say. There's a storage depot in Kingston. Go there. Alone. Prepare to take off that mask, or your friends will die.

• Dr. Jonathan Crane : Are you ready?

  Batman : This isn't going to end how you think, Crane.

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : Enough bravado. It's too late for that. I don't care who you are, but they will

  [gestures to the people on the TV monitors] 

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : I'm going to rob them of hope. Failure will have a face and a name. It is time. Mr. Gordon, I would like you to do the honors.

  G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon : Never. I'm done taking orders from you.

  [Scarecrow aims his gun at Gordon, but then shoots Robin] 

  G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon : You bastard!

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : Take off that mask or my next shot will kill him.

  Batman : It's okay, Jim.

  G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon : It's not okay. You know what this means.

  Batman : It's the end.

  G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon : When they find out who you are, there'll be no hiding.

  Batman : You need to trust me, Jim.

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : Now!

  [Gordon slowly removes Batman's mask. The people watching via news footage react in surprise] 

  Dr. Jonathan Crane : Wayne? Bruce Wayne? Now the people of Gotham can see their savior for what he truly is: a legend laid bare. Powerless. Human. AFRAID.
