- Elijah Mikaelson: A single violent outburst at a filthy roadside café, and one never hears the end of it.
- Hayley Marshall: Moonlight ring, daylight ring, if I never hear the word "ring" again, it will be all too soon.
- Hayley Marshall: Hey. Thanks for meeting me here.
- Jackson Kenner: [soft chuckle] I ask you to marry me, and you take off for three days. Good thing I'm a secure guy. Sort of.
- [smiles]
- Hayley Marshall: So... are you ready to do this thing? Get hitched, take the plunge, slap on the old ball and chain?
- Jackson Kenner: Whoa, it's not that simple. There's a mystical unification ceremony. It's not like we can just go to Vegas.
- Hayley Marshall: Right.
- Jackson Kenner: Look, as long as the werewolves need those rings, they'll be under the witches' control. Now, if we wanna change that, we gotta do this by the book. Literally. I mean, we have to find a shaman who can perform the ceremony, trials to endure, devotion rituals.
- Hayley Marshall: Devotion rituals?
- Jackson Kenner: [chuckles] Try not to sound too excited.
- Hayley Marshall: I'm sorry, this all sounds very, um...
- Jackson Kenner: Intimate?
- [she chIckles uncertainly]
- Jackson Kenner: Yeah, it's a marriage. Look, I know we're kinda diving into this thing... but I think it's cool. I'm looking forward to the getting-to-know-you parts. I wanna know you.
- [she seems less than enthusiastic]
- Jackson Kenner: Hayley. What's going on?
- Hayley Marshall: [closes door] We need to talk.
- Jackson Kenner: Are you okay?
- Hayley Marshall: Yes. Uh, no, I mean, I was just thinking that if we're gonna go through with this marriage then I... wanna do it right and I wanna be honest with you.
- [he looks at her expectantly]
- Hayley Marshall: The last couple of days when I was gone... the truth is... I was with Elijah.
- Jackson Kenner: Okay.
- Hayley Marshall: No. I mean I was... *with* Elijah.
- Jackson Kenner: [truth dawns upon him, it hurts, and he staggers away, turning back:] Are you in love with him?
- [no answer, but her eyes tell the whole story, and he nods:]
- Jackson Kenner: Right. I guess I already knew that, didn't I?
- Hayley Marshall: It doesn't matter how I feel, Jack. This isn't about me or you. It's...
- Jackson Kenner: It's a sacrifice.
- Hayley Marshall: That's not what I said.
- Jackson Kenner: No. Hayley, you didn't have to.
