  [Aiden throws a punch to Glenn but misses, Glenn then takes Aiden down, and Daryl drops Nicholas to the ground] 

  Deanna Monroe : Aiden! That's enough! I said that is enough.

  Rick Grimes : [runs in from the distance and tries to pull Daryl back]  Whoa, whoa! Hey, hey, hey! Let's not do this now.

  Daryl Dixon : Tell him.

  Michonne : [standing in front of Aiden who gets back on his feet]  You want to end up on your ass again?

  Carl Grimes : This is the kind of place my mom wanted for us.

  Deanna Monroe : I'm sorry you lost her.

  Carl Grimes : I didn't just lose her. I killed her. It had to be me.

• [Deanna records Rick on camera as the two talk to each other for the first time] 

  Deanna Monroe : How long have you been out there?

  Rick Grimes : Since the beginning.

  Deanna Monroe : How did you all find each other? Did you know each other before or - ?

  Rick Grimes : We didn't know each other before.

  Deanna Monroe : I was a congress person. Ohio, 15th district. You?

  Rick Grimes : I don't think it matters anymore.

  Deanna Monroe : Oh, I know it does.

  Rick Grimes : What is this place?

  Deanna Monroe : This is the start of sustainability. That's what the brochures we found say. This was a planned community. With it's own solar grid, cisterns, eco-based sewage filtration. Starting at the low 800,000s...

  Deanna Monroe : [Deanna chuckles]  If there is such a thing. And they sold them all.

  Rick Grimes : How did you end up here?

  Deanna Monroe : Well, my family and I were trying to get back to Ohio so I could help my district manage the crisis. And... the army stopped us on a back road and directed us here. They were supposed to come later. They didn't. But there were supplies here and we made the best of it.

  Rick Grimes : You put up the wall?

  Deanna Monroe : Well, there was this huge shopping mall being built nearby. And my husband Reg is a professor of architecture. And who he was mattered quite a bit. He got the first plates up with our sons. And after a few weeks, more people arrived and we had help. We had a community.

  Rick Grimes : You've been behind these walls this entire time?

  Deanna Monroe : We need people who have lived out there. Your group is the first we've even considered taking in for a long time.

  Rick Grimes : You should keep your gates closed.

  Deanna Monroe : Why?

  Rick Grimes : Because it's all about survival now. At any cost. People out there are always looking for an angle. Looking to play on your weakness. They measure you by what they can take from you. By how they can use you to live. So bringing people into a place like this now...

  Deanna Monroe : Are you telling me not to bring your people in? Are you already looking after this place? Aaron says I can trust you.

  Rick Grimes : Aaron doesn't know me. I've killed people. I don't even know how many by now. But I know why they're all dead. They're dead so my family, all those people out there, can be alive. So I could be alive for them.

  Deanna Monroe : Sounds like I'd want to be part of your family.

• [Deanna records Daryl on camera] 

  Deanna Monroe : You're welcome to sit, Daryl. I won't bite.

  Daryl Dixon : [pacing]  Yeah, I'm all right.

  Deanna Monroe : Daryl, you want to be here?

  Daryl Dixon : The boy and the baby, they deserve a roof, I guess.

• [Deanna knocks on Rick's front door to check on him before the end of the first night and sees him without his beard] 

  Deanna Monroe : Rick, I- Wow. I didn't know what was under there. Listen, I don't mean to interrupt. I just wanted to stop by and see how you were all settling. Oh, my.

  [notices Rick's group all together in the same room] 

  Deanna Monroe : Staying together. Smart.

  Rick Grimes : No one said we couldn't.

  Deanna Monroe : You said you were a family. That's what you said. Absolutely amazing to me how people with completely different backgrounds and with nothing in common can become that. Don't you think?

  Rick Grimes : Everybody said you gave them jobs.

  Deanna Monroe : Mhmm. Yeah. Part of this place. Looks like the communists won after all.

  Rick Grimes : Well, you didn't give me one.

  Deanna Monroe : I have. I just haven't told you yet. Same with Michonne. I'm closing in on something for Sasha. And I'm just trying to figure Mr. Dixon out, but I will.

  [turns to Rick one last time before walking out] 

  Deanna Monroe : You look good.

• [Deanna talks to Rick on what she wants him and his group for] 

  Deanna Monroe : Rick, northern Virgina was effectively evacuated. Millions of people gone. For a long time, there's hardly been anyone living or dead, but still... we have lost people. And, uh... I've done things.

  Rick Grimes : What have you done?

  Deanna Monroe : I exiled three men who didn't work out. And we both know that's as good as killing them.

  Rick Grimes : What do you want from us?

  Deanna Monroe : These families... these families should be able to raise their children in a safe environment. Your son, your daughter, should have a place to grow up. What do I want? I want you to help us survive. I know you can help us do that.

  Rick Grimes : How?

  Deanna Monroe : I am exceptionally good at reading people. If I didn't win re-election, I was going to be a professional poker player.

  Deanna Monroe : [Rick scoffs]  I'm not kidding. Rick... it's 3:37 P.M. You're skeptical. You have a right to be. But it's time to decide if you're the one who's doing the deciding.

  Rick Grimes : [Rick turns the hands on his watch to 3:37 P.M]  I was a sheriff.

  Deanna Monroe : Yeah, I knew it was something like that.

  [Rick looks to Deanna with a sincere look] 

• Deanna Monroe : [to Rick]  I told you I had a job for you. I'd like you to be our constable. That's what you were. That's what you are.

  [to Michonne] 

  Deanna Monroe : And you too. Will you accept?

  Rick Grimes : Okay.

  Michonne : Yeah, I'm in.

  Deanna Monroe : [to Glenn, about Aiden]  Thank you.

  Glenn Rhee : For what?

  Deanna Monroe : For knocking him on his ass.

• [Deanna records Michonne on camera] 

  Michonne : If this is how you're saying it is, then this is what we wanted. We're ready for this.

  Deanna Monroe : All of you?

  Michonne : [Michonne sighs]  All of us.

• [Deanna records Carol on camera] 

  Carol Peletier : [grinning]  I did laundry, gardened. Um... always had dinner on the table for Ed when he came home. Um... I miss that stupid wonderful man every day. You know, I didn't really have much to offer this group, so I think I just sort of became their den mother. And they've been nice enough to protect me.

  Deanna Monroe : Where do you think you'll fit in?

  Carol Peletier : Oh, um, hmm. Well, I'd like to be involved in the community. Do you have anything like a Junior League? I'm a real people person.

  [gives a big smile] 

• [Deanna records Glenn on camera] 

  Glenn Rhee : We need to make this work.

  Deanna Monroe : Why?

  Glenn Rhee : 'Cause... we were almost out there too long.
