Exclusive: CBS’ Elsbeth will count on three additional guest stars for its Season 1 cast: Elizabeth Lail (Five Nights At Freddy’s), Arian Moayed (Succession) and Laura Benanti (The Gilded Age). Following a brief hiatus, the show returns April 4 with two episodes.
Elsbeth follows the titular Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston), an astute but unconventional attorney who utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD following her successful career in Chicago. The character first appeared in The Good Wife and later in The Good Fight spinoff.
In addition to Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson round out the series regular cast as Captain Wagner and Kaya Blanke, respectively. Gloria Reuben recurs as Wagner’s wife, Claudia Payne. The cast is small as the police procedural dramedy depends on a healthy supply of guest stars like Stephen Moyer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Linda Lavin and Blair Underwood,...

The new HBO series “The Gilded Age” hails from “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes, and much like that hit period series, this one features a lot of characters. Several cadres of characters keep the plot pivoting back and forth between households and prominent locations around 1890s New York, as the show tells a story of New York City on the cusp of change, where the battle between old money and new money — as well as old and new ways of doing things — is being fought.
A mix of veteran actors and actresses balance out some newer talent in Julian Fellowes’ latest fictional show — from “Sex and the City’s” Cynthia Nixon to Meryl Streep’s youngest daughter Louisa Jacobson, who plays a main heroine at the heart of aristocratic New York City.
“American Horror Story’s” Taissa Farmiga plays a supporting role with room for growth: Gladys Russell,...

Most people spend their entire lives avoiding physical altercations, but in Miguel’s case, all he can think about is giving someone the gift of chin music in the Hulu Original film Miguel Wants to Fight. Hulu debuted the first Miguel Wants to Fight trailer on Tuesday, teasing the next film from American High. The light-hearted coming-of-age comedy taps into the curse of peer pressure, self-doubt, and the mystery of knowing if you can hold your own in a schoolyard scuffle.
Here’s the official synopsis for Miguel Wants to Fight:
Despite living in a neighborhood where fighting is stitched into the fabric of everyday life, high school junior Miguel (Tyler Dean Flores) has never found himself in one. And, to be honest, he’s perfectly fine with that. But when a combination of events turn his life upside down, Miguel and his three best friends —the stoic David...

“The Accidental Wolf,” the new thriller from creator Arian Moayed debuting on Topic next week, is a series that avoids easy answers. Rather, the show lives within the ambiguities of truth and belief and, according to series star Kelli O’Hara, it speaks directly to our current political and cultural moment.
“How is it we can be absolutely opposed, 50-50, on things that seem so clear?” O’Hara said during a preview of the series for TheWrap’s Virtual Screening Series on Wednesday.
“The Accidental Wolf” centers on Katie Bonner (O’Hara), a woman whose “quiet” life in Manhattan is upended by a late-night phone call in which an unknown caller pleads for the life of his pregnant and wounded wife, Tala. Deeply affected, Katie embarks on a journey to find her, but not without drawing skepticism and condemnation from the people around her who think she’s falling into a scam.

It took a decade for Broadway royalty Kelli O’Hara to snag her first Tony Award win. But shortly after that success on her home turf, O’Hara may be on the way to her first Emmy Award thanks to the web series “The Accidental Wolf.”
O’Hara landed her first Tony nomination in the Musical Featured Actress category for “The Light in the Piazza” in 2005. While her co-star Victoria Clark was victorious in the lead category, O’Hara lost to Sara Ramirez from “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” O’Hara would go on to have an illustrious career on the rialto and would be recognized repeatedly in the lead category. She was nominated for her work in “The Pajama Game,” “South Pacific,” “Nice Work if You Can Get It,” and “The Bridges of Madison County.” Though she was competitive every year, she always wound up a Tony bridesmaid. It worked.
Television writer Megan Amram’s web series dedicated to her quest to win an Emmy cleared the first hurdle: she collected nominations for outstanding actress in a short-form comedy or drama series and for outstanding series.
Released on April 27, just in time to qualify for the 2018 awards, Amram pulls the viewer into her by-the-numbers campaign to grab the television industry’s top award.
In the first of six episodes in the series, An Emmy for Megan, Amram confides to actress Alison Rich about her epiphany while watching last year’s Emmy Awards. That’s when she discovered the short-form series category, with its low bar for eligibility (six episodes of under 15 minutes).
“I thought to myself, ‘Wow, I could win that,'” Amram said.
Rich points out the obvious challenge: Amram, a writer on The Good Place, Silicon Valley and Parks and Recreation, doesn’t act.
