Assets of Doom (1993) served as the basis for this game. While the gameplay mechanic is the same, the graphics were modified to allow a more family friendly game.
A CD of this game was included in Chex cereal boxes in 1996. Since its release, it has gained a cult following.
The game was developed by a small team and with a budget of $500,000.
1996 was also the year when other famous first person shooter games, such as Quake and Duke Nukem 3D was released.
id Software which was the creator of Doom would release Quake which has a full 3D environment with jumping and swimming, while Duke Nukem 3D would offer lots of gadgets beyond puzzle solving and shooting enemies, as well as jumping ans swimming, although it used 2D maps with 3D rendering unlike Quake.
Check Quest, however, simply just recycled the Doom engine, and used new graphics, since the other aforementioned titles were made as new engines from the ground up to be technically superior to Doom.
