In the restaurant scene with Max and Jessica, Thomas employed a wig on a vacuum for the over-the-shoulder shots of Max to save time. This wig was made from 100% human hair and is used throughout the film. There is also a shot in the restaurant from Jessica's back side and it is actually Thomas wearing it since the restaurant footage was shot in a restaurant at an earlier time without the presence of both actors; they were later filmed via green screen.
The limited budget for the film required a lot of delayed casting of characters (i.e. some actors interacting with other actors who were casted and edited into the film years later), creative geography (turning a bedroom into a hospital room, editing together different actual locations to make them seem like one location in the story such as a scene with Mr. Kenner visiting Max at the hospital. In reality he was sitting in a basement laundry room in one of the dorms on campus). The filming began in February of 2009 and continued until July 2012. The post production and ADR work began after this and it wasn't until Labor Day 2014 that the film premiered at Studio C! Movie Theater in Okemos, Michigan close to Michigan State University's campus, where the "heart and soul" of the film was made). In addition to the feature film that is now available for sale on Blu-ray with an array of special features, there was a music video made for the film, a feature length behind-the-scenes documentary, "First Feature," both directed by Thomas Reilly-King's friend, Curtis Matzke, and "Talking Dolls" that Thomas had commissioned.
