How far is this series going to fall?

I loved the original Truth or Dare back in my youth on VHS. It was crazy as hell, pushed the boundaries of good taste and even though the effects were not so special, they gave it their all. But THIS?

Damn I want to love ALL of these as I am a big fan of Joel Wynkoop. And I have enjoyed a few of Tim Ritter's films. But this series has continued to disappoint me over the years. Tim has been doing this long enough that he should know better. Technically, it is about 10 levels removed from anything he had done in the past. Just no merit. I mean, even with no money people should be able to frame a shot. Not really much in the way of actual lighting. Poor sound. I was struggling to understand what was being said. This has been an issue for some time. Even Truth or Dare 3 and 4 were miserable to get through due to similar problems. But it's worse here. Composition is not even a thought. Hell, WATCH other movies!!! Pay some attention to how a shot is framed. I get sides and backs of heads talking away from the camera. Forget line of action or traditional dialogue over the shoulder shooting. And with the bad sound, it REALLY makes it hard to care.

I wanted more Wynkoop and I kept getting Tepperman whose name is all over this vanity project. That guy likes his own face on screen. It's like the Kenneth Branagh of zero budget movies. So while I LOVE many micro-budget films, I just feel no one here had a care about making a decent movie. Why do it at all? If someone tries, and their project shows ambition and passion, I am willing to forgive about anything. But lets play a game, shall we? TRUTH is this sucks and I DARE anyone to get through it.

Solid and enjoyable shot-on-video effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder16 April 2020
Years after a killing spree, a madman released from an insane asylum believed to have been rehabilitated connects with another user on a website for psychopaths to dare others into committing murder begins a rampage against those that wronged him and forces the authorities to stop him.

For the most part, this one wasn't all that bad of an effort. One of the finer points to this was the rather strong connection this one generates with the game which is carried over from the previous entries. Using the internet site and showing him being able to video chat others for their requests gives the film a fine connection to the past as well as keeping the series engaged with the modern age. That culture makes for a solid baseline here that gets worked over rather nicely with the connections established with the remaining storyline involving the detectives and investigators going after the site-owners that brings it all together. That also serves nicely with the storyline involving the doctors getting revenge on everybody else through the game which gives this one plenty of fun times as the encounters grow throughout the film. From the simple scenes of them breaking into peoples' houses to record them having sex and then escalating into full-on murder with the confrontations at his daughters' house, the farmhouse and the beatdown on the highway, these give this one some rather fun demented scenes to further the revenge plotline at the core of the whole film. Once it finally reveals itself at the end with the series of chases, brawls, and encounters in the abandoned asylum that offers up plenty of thrilling action inside, this one steps up the intensity level to provide plenty of closure to the events within and manages to give this a kind of fun finale that's rather engaging throughout here that carries the demented spirit rather nicely. Given the right amount of sleaze here with the stellar low-budget gore, a few fine comedic elements and a couple of fine nude scenes, these here make this one quite enjoyable enough to hold it up over it's few minor flaws. One of the main problems here is the somewhat stagnant pacing that does have a few minor issues with the film since the film goes through a few peaks and valleys in its tempo. There are a few big spurts of action here and there but then it'll drop off to deal with the different storylines to play out here involving the detectives' going back to their connections and lives that drop off the pacing somewhat. Once it gets to the slashing, this one picks up but it's the few lulls in the activity that brings this one down. As well, the film's somewhat low-budget look does become somewhat distracting in terms of some of the special effects as well as the general atmosphere featured throughout here. It does become enough of an issue to hold it back somewhat, although there are a few redeeming factors to raise it up.

Rated Unrated/R: Extreme Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Nudity, a sex scene and drug use.
