Cat Grant is being presented with the Siegel Prize for Women in Media. This is named after Jerry Siegel, one of the co-creators of Superman.
Following the November 2015 Paris attacks, the episode "How Does She Do It?", which features content similar to the attacks and was originally scheduled to air as the fourth episode of the first season on November 16, 2015, was pulled from its scheduled airing. In its place, the episode "Livewire", which was originally scheduled to air as the fifth episode on November 23, 2015, was aired. "How Does She Do It?" then aired as the fifth episode on November 23. For the season's home media release, the episodes were restored to their original production order.
By a horrible coincidence, in Easter 2016, when the UK's Sky One had originally planned to show the first eight episodes back to back on Good Friday, on the 25th March, earlier terrorist attacks forced this episode to be withdrawn from broadcast that day. In the previous 5 days, there was the Istanbul suicide bombing on 21 March 2016, and on March 22, attacks at Brussels Airport. Also, in Britain, a Briton who had been missing in Brussels since Tuesday, was confirmed as having died in the bomb attacks in the Belgian capital, the Foreign Office had confirmed. The episode was put as an online only episode for Friday 25, but the Saturday 26 March scheduling of this episode was broadcast as planned. Understandably, due to the nature of the episode's content, it was not considered appropriate to show for Broadcast in the UK & Ireland on that day.
The building shown as Lord Technologies headquarters is station Berlin Hauptbahnhof, complete with an ICE-train and the arrival/departure board right below the Lord Technologies logo.
52: the number 52 can be briefly seen on the rooftop of a building (instead of the traditional H) as Supergirl flies to the trains station, at 28:10. 52 is likely a reference to DC Comics "The New 52" rebooted story arcs between 2011 and 2015.
