Failed TV pilot short that had an episode name of "Chapter One: The Lion Men of Tanganyika". The end of the short advertised another chapter, which did not materialize (originally 13 were planned but the budget did not allow for more). The short was released on video decades later.
The Steve Reeves biography "A Moment in Time" published in 2014 contains a copy of the original offer letter for "Kimbar of the Jungle". It is dated 7/29/50. Further information supplied by Reeves states that he signed the actual contract on 9/27/50 and the film was shot in late November 1950 in the San Fernando Valley. The agreed salary was $55 per day for the pilot, then $200 per episode for the rest of the series, plus 10% of the profits. Since the project was abandoned after the pilot (which took "about a week" to film), Reeves would have received no more than $275.
This film did have a theatrical release (of sorts). In 1981 the Los Angeles Film Teachers Association screened 10:00 am matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at a Hollywood second-run theatre. These were often films of curiosity value. The billing on 2/14/81 included The Space Children (1958) and "Kimbar of the Jungle". According to reports, the audience "laughed uproariously" at both films.
