Steve Harvey may be taking a lot of flack for his Miss Universe flub – but he says owning up to his mistake was the right thing to do.
"I feel horrible for the two countries. I feel horrible for the fans. It was a mistake," he said during a press conference after the show Sunday in Las Vegas. "The dishonorable thing would be to just leave it like it was. It didn't deserve to happen that way, but it happened from an honest mistake."
Harvey, who served as Miss Universe host, mistakenly announced Miss Colombia as the winner, when Miss Philippines actually won the crown.

The 2015 Miss Universe pageant, which aired live on Fox last night, didn’t end in a way that anyone would have expected. After the show’s host, Steve Harvey, crowned Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner of the competition, he quickly realized that he made a major mistake. Miss Colombia was actually the first runner-up, not the first place winner, and Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was actually the one who had won the pageant. After making the error, Harvey was incredibly remorseful and apologetic. The host even took to Twitter to say how sorry he was, writing that he felt “terrible” about what happened and apologizing to both the constants and viewers for what he called “an honest mistake.” Meanwhile, the Miss Universe Organization released the following statement about the situation via Fox: The excitement of live TV was evident tonight on the Miss Universe stage with over 10 million live fan…...

It’s always a gamble when awards shows elect to broadcast live, and the Miss Universe 2015 pageant learned that lesson the hard way on Sunday (December 20).
Host Steve Harvey initially announced that Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez had won the competition, only to come out a few minutes later to confess that he read the card wrong and that Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was actually Miss Universe 2015.
First, Steve apologized from the stage- “I will take responsibility. It was my mistake. Please don’t hold it against the ladies.” And Harvey later tweeted, “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible. Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake. I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants.

Steve Harvey's major mistake at Sunday night's Miss Universe pageant may have left the Internet in a fury, but the contestants involved kept upbeat about the jaw-dropping ordeal.
Harvey accidentally announced Miss Colombia (Ariadna Gutierrez) as the winner of the coveted crown, when, in fact, Miss Philippines (Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach) was the victor.
Despite the awkward incident, which played out live on television, Gutierrez maintained her composure and was graceful during post-show interviews.
As she exited the stage, the 21-year-old wiped away tears and told the camera, "Everything happens for a reason."
She continued, "I'm so happy, thank you for voting for me.
