Late Bloomer, the 2024 Canadian comedy series, revolves around the life of Jasmeet Dutta. He is a popular YouTuber known for sharing humorous insights into his brown family and their unique cultural experiences. The show humorously depicts the stark differences between brown and white cultures, shedding light on the everyday challenges and amusing scenarios faced by the Dutta family and on brown culture itself. In the first episode, the storyline takes an unexpected turn when Jasmeet’s laptop, which contains some rather compromising content, gets stolen. The series resonates particularly well with the brown community, offering relatable moments that touch on the common tendencies to worry about societal expectations and take pride in one’s culture and religion.

Exclusive: The creator of Canadian smash Letterkenny has struck a multi-year content deal with streamer Crave and New Metric Media that Crave’s programing boss says is a first of its kind.
With Letterkenny’s 12th and final season dropping on Boxing Day, Jared Keeso will subsequently make 49 episodes of Letterkenny spin-offs including Shoresy and other potential shows across several years.
Unveiling the news to Deadline, Crave VP Content Development & Programming Justin Stockman said “this is probably the only deal that has ever been done like this in Canada.” The deal does not prevent Keeso from making shows for other platforms, eschewing the golden handcuffs approach taken by some of the major Hollywood players.
“There is not a lot of pre-committing in Canadian content so this is pretty unique but shows our belief in Jared and the show, and in other shows that don’t exist yet,” added Stockman. “This...

During a panel discussion on faith and comedy at the Just For Laughs festival on Saturday, Ramy Youssef talked about his father foretelling the Hollywood actors strike when offering early career advice.
Youssef, who portrays his Muslim faith with both devotion and defiance in his Hulu series Ramy, told the comedy festival audience about his Egyptian-born father discouraging him early on from becoming an artist and entertainer because he’d have to provide for his family one day. “He was always like, ‘This is a beautiful hobby for you to have. Grow the hobby.’ But I remember him clearly saying, ‘One day, real life is going to start,’” he recounted.
The current industry shutdown as Hollywood actors on picket lines seek fair pay, including residuals from streamers, has that warning from his traditional accountant father ringing in his head. “Now we’re in the strike, and, well, here it is!

A road movie/pseudo-documentary following the band Gui aiueo:s, A Stone from Another Mountain to Polish Your Own Stone, portrays the band as introspective UFO hunters as they traverse across Japan. Split into various chapters in an attempt to set up a narrative, the film can be broken down into a few different scenes. Specifically, driving with no set destination, walking through the woods aimlessly, visiting an old man who talks about his land and a sustainable toilet, going to a carnival, taking a guided tour through the woods and lastly, an experimental musical piece paired with performance art. There are a few scenes spattered in between these moments, but they are short in both length and content to really be of note.
The film utilizes many different angles to capture the band while they wander around, with the desired effect to be a sort of passenger to their exploits,...

The fourth album from Alabama sibling duo the Secret Sisters is the stunning country-soul opus their talent has always promised. Laura and Lydia Rogers have been at it since 2010, making solid LPs with high-profile producers (T Bone Burnett, Dave Cobb) while lending their Southern church harmonies to legends like Willie Nelson and Elvis Costello. In 2017, the pair enlisted singer-songwriter Brandi -Carlile to co-produce their third LP, You Don’t Own Me Anymore, helping them up their game in a set of songs about piloting life’s hardships, delivered with tender -intimacy.

Those who have followed my coverage of The Overlook Film Festival over the years on Daily Dead and social media know how much I love the work of Clay McLeod Chapman and his one-on-one edition of The Pumpkin Pie Show. This year, he's bringing his one-on-ones to New York City for a limited engagement you won't want to miss.
Taking place on six Sundays, between September 2nd - October 7th, tickets are now available for $15 and must be purchased in advance. If you life in or near New York City, I can't recommend this enough. Chapman is a masterful actor and storyteller, who will delight, engross, and horrify you with an immersive experience that makes you forget that this is only a performance.
To give you a little taste of what to expect, the one-on-one sessions are 20 minutes each and even though the performance can be very intense, there is no physical contact.
