“It’s so cool and enlivening that me and my best friend Cj Romero had this funny idea and now it’s a show. “Canada takes care of its people,” Ellen Page confesses to once believing in her new documentary “There’s Something in the Water.” The country is famous for its progressive legislation, including universal health care, marriage equality and legalized marijuana, but that public image obfuscates a history of racist policies that have endangered the lives and livelihoods of black and indigenous peoples.
Co-directed by Page and her “Gaycation” co-host Ian Daniel, this brisk and bracing new doc finds them traveling through Nova Scotia and speaking to community activists who are trying — desperately, and with a disturbing lack of success — to protect their lands and their water from landfills and industrial pollutants. This unchecked industrialization is poisoning residents, killing fish and threatening to wreak further havoc upon the environment and the human beings who depend on it for survival.

The term “environmental racism” may be unfamiliar to many of us, but it pretty much means what it says: the discrimination of minorities by subjecting them to toxic levels of pollution, often by building factories or waste sites near their communities.

“Bad Education”
Perhaps one of the biggest titles for sale, “Bad Education” stars Hugh Jackman, Allison Janney, Ray Romano and Alex Wolff and is based on the real-life events that took place at writer Mike Makowsky’s high school.
“Citizen K”
Following his critically lauded “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley,” Alex Gibney is back with “Citizen K,” a documentary about Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who went from communist to political prisoner in a 20-year battle with Putin.
“The Friend”
Based on the award-winning Esquire article of the same name, the film follows a man (Jason Segel) who puts his life on hold to help his friends though a terminal cancer diagnosis. Dakota Johnson and Casey Affleck also star in the Gabriela Cowperthwaite (“Blackfish”) film.
“How to Build a Girl”
Everyone is obsessed with Beanie Feldstein following her performance in “Booksmart,” so naturally, this film has become a buzzy title for Tiff buyers.

After a month and a half, Viceland is pulling the plug on “Vice Live,” its weeknight live show, due to low ratings.
“Vice Live” aired Monday through Thursday from Vice’s Brooklyn headquarters, originally launching as a two-hour nightly showcase of all things Vice. Viceland later cut the show to one hour a night, but “Vice Live” never managed to catch on in pop culture. Ellen Page on Thursday criticized Chris Pratt for attending a “infamously anti-Lgbtq” church after he appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and discussed his religious side.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star sat down with Colbert to promote “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” and Pratt said he just finished a 21-day Daniel Fast that he took part in through his church and that his pastor encouraged. He also said the pastor shared with him words of wisdom about balancing fame and his inner self.
“If the spotlight that is shining on you is brighter than the light that’s within you, it will kill you,” Pratt recounted to Colbert.
Page tweeted about the appearance and the pastor shortly after, writing, “Oh. K. Um. But his church is infamously anti lgbtq so maybe address that too?”

Word on the Celebrity Real Estate Street via covert communiqué from always in-the-know property gossip Yolanda Yaketyyak is that Oscar winning “Her” filmmaker, accomplished photographer, acclaimed music video director and occasional actor Spike Jonze, creative director of Vice Media and its multinational TV channel Viceland, splashed out $5.85 million for a vintage mid-century residence in Malibu, California’s Point Dume area. The ranch-style residence, a low-slung post-and-beam built structure built in the mid-1950s at the end of a long and gated gravel driveway on a tree-shaded acre with a coveted deeded key to the locked gates that keep non-residents from accessing one of Point Dume’s all but unspoiled and never crowded beaches, measures in at 1,965-square-feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

It may sound odd that a show called “Gaycation” would visit the site of the largest mass shooting in U.S. history, but Ellen Page and Ian Daniel seem unfazed.
“We’re here because we just want to see how the community is feeling and dealing with this,” Page says, next to a pensive Daniel. “And just be here for those who feel like they want to share their story.” The two friends and co-producers are standing next to some yellow police tape outside Pulse night club, the site of the deadly shooting that took place on June 12, 2016. The opening credits roll on “Gaycation Presents: Orlando,” and Page’s voiceover begins.

In January 2009, software salesman James Nguyen traveled to the Sundance Film Festival to self-promote his low-budget independent horror film “Birdemic: Shock and Terror.” He handed out flyers from a beaten-up van with a stuffed bird on the antenna and covered with paper signs reading, “Bidemic.Com” (accidentally misspelled) and “Why Did The Eagles And Vultures Attacked?”
Word of mouth from horror movie websites spread around the festival and eventually the trailer was shown on G4’s “Attack of the Show.” In February of 2010, “Birdemic” had its Los Angeles premiere hosted by Tim & Eric, and it was soon picked up for distribution by Severin Films.
