The music video for Disturbed’s haunting cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound of Silence” has surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube.
Disturbed’s version of the song appeared on their 2015 album, Immortalized, and was bolstered by a stirring live rendition on TBS’ Conan in March 2016. In fact, the Conan performance has 146 million views itself on YouTube. For comparison sake, the most viewed video of Simon & Garfunkel performing the song has 134 million views.

Paul Simon himself endorsed Disturbed’s potent take on the song, emailing his approval to singer David Draiman: “Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks.”
Draiman replied to Simon at the time, “Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words. We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Hoobastank’s massive hit “The Reason” has just entered an elite club — songs that have topped one billion streams on Spotify.
“What an amazing moment,” guitarist Dan Estrin said in a statement. “Creating something with your childhood best friends and then watching it grow into an out of control wild fire has been absolutely surreal. None of us ever expected this, and at times it feels like a dream. Knowing how much ‘The Reason’ means to so many people in the world is an indescribable, proud, emotional feeling. I am way beyond grateful and realize how fortunate we are. We have played it all over the world. And to see everyone’s faces while they sing along is priceless. Thank you world.”

IMAX CEO has decided. The dominant movie in IMAX theaters will be Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, while Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning gets only one-week IMAX running. The reason is the camera. Nolan shot Oppenheimer with real IMAX cameras (‘Filmed in IMAX’), compared to ‘Mission’ that was filmed on the Sony Venice which is ‘only’ an IMAX certified (‘Filmed for IMAX’) camera.
The IMAX Certified Sony Venice vs. IMAX film camera (Msm 9802) It’s all about the camera, stupid
It was reported that Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning is only playing in IMAX theaters for one week. Why? Because it was kicked off by Nolan’s Oppenheimer. As Tom Cruise has got angry, and we absolutely can understand him, IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond sheds light on that matter by stating to Variety: “I feel sad in a way we can’t accommodate all of them.

The A24-produced thriller was created by Lee Sung Jin, and executive produced by Jake Schreier, Ravi Nandan and Alli Reich. Series leads Wong and Yeun also serve as executive producers.

The premiere episode of Netflix’s Beef ends with a needle drop of Hoobastank’s “The Reason.” The track plays as Ali Wong’s Amy runs down the street after Steven Yeun’s Danny, who has just posed as a contractor to get inside her home and pay her back after the series’ inciting road rage incident.

The perfectly fitting song wasn’t so easy to get, requiring a personal email to the band from creator Lee Sung Jin.
“Dear Hoobastank,” Lee joked during Deadline’s Contenders Television panel, where he was joined by both Wong and Yeun. “I wrote a huge love letter just talking about how much I was into the band in college. They don’t let you use the original master, because they were all under horrible record deals.

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, as viewers consume Netflix’s “Beef,” we we go over the comedy races.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s Friday and I’m happy to ask and answer our first question: Where’s the “Beef”? On Netflix! This week, the streaming giant of a thousand shows and movies launched one of its better efforts in a bit: “Beef,” a dark comedy that’s not really funny but also funnier than many ostensible comedy shows — something we tried to inventory this week already with our voices. We’re both fans of this one, a character study of two broken people that feels like an episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” but make it “Weeds”? Whatever the comps, “Beef” feels like it could...

Steven Yeun and Ali Wong grill up some juicy Beef in Netflix’s latest dramedy after an incident on the road changes the lives of their characters in ways you can’t imagine. And what unravels in Netflix’s 10-episode series (all of which is now available to stream) is so funny, so dramatic and so tragic that it borders on absurdity in the best possible way.
In the premiere, we meet Danny Cho (Yeun) in the middle of a rough day. After failing to return some hibachi grills (for the third time apparently) and enduring massive judgment from a store clerk,...

Days after Rihanna stunned audiences with her Super Bowl halftime show, Doug Robb of Hoobastank admitted the rock band once abandoned a feature from the megastar.
“True story. There is a version of a @Hoobastank song featuring @rihanna when she was a ‘newer’ artist,” lead singer Robb wrote in a tweet.
“Displaying a total lack of foresight, we didn’t use that version of the song for the album. We also didn’t think ‘The Reason’ was a single though either so… Oops,” he said, referencing the band’s biggest hit.
Robb included a clip from Rihanna’s halftime show in his tweet with the audio replaced by Hoobastank’s “Crawling in the Dark”, which contains the lyrics, “‘Cause I’m looking and I just can’t see what’s in front of me.”

Everyone has made a decision or two in life that they’ve eventually come to regret and the members of Hoobastank are no exception.
On Feb. 14, the group behind such hits as “The Reason” and “Crawling in the Dark” tweeted a confession, revealing that Rihanna contributed vocals to a song on the band’s third album, but those vocals were never used.
Fun Fact: @rihanna was featured on a Hoobastank song on their 3rd Album. After hearing it, they decided to use the version Without Rihanna on it because……. well……..because……. they made a mistake. #hoobastank #oopsmistake #theyrenotperfectpeople #takeusbackrihanna pic.twitter.com/vbgutRWFVx

While the band didn’t reveal which song Rihanna sang on for that album, Every Man for Himself, the group noted that there were two versions of that particular song: one featuring Rihanna, and another without her.

All good things must come to an end, and that's especially true for "The Expanse". Based on the science fiction novels by James S.A. Corey, "The Expanse" was a critical and commercial success -- even surviving cancellation at its original network SyFy, spending the remainder of its run on Amazon Prime Video. As someone who's read the novels, I certainly see where the praise is coming from: the show is impeccably cast (especially when it comes to Shohreh Aghdashloo as Chrisjen Avasarala -- name another character on TV who can use swear words so creatively), and it manages to adapt the events of the novels in a way that appeals...

About 3 million Americans went to movie theaters this holiday weekend, with a total gross about $25 million. This we know.
We can assume that far more watched movies at home, including multiple titles that in a non-covid 19 world would either be playing in theaters now or would have already earlier this year. But we don’t know the actual numbers of these movies seen at home; only, in some cases, their relative order of popularity.
At a time when the future of movie theaters is uncertain, knowing the specifics is critical to analyzing what is likely to happen strategically when the pandemic fades. But all we have is tea leaves. Knowledge is power, but it is hard to determine right now because of the ongoing trend of streamers to obfuscate data.

Cinema Eye Honors (Ceh) announced the nominees for its 14th annual awards on December 10, raising the profile of three contenders in the Documentary Feature Oscar derby. Garrett Bradley‘s “Time,” Victor Kossakovsky‘s “Gunda,” and Alexander Nanau‘s “Collective” all reaped bids for Best Documentary Feature, Direction and Editing.
“Time” leads the Ceh’s nominees with six overall, including Debut, Score and Audience Choice. “Gunda” added Cinematography to its tally for four overall, equal to the four for “Collective” which added Production. The other two films nominated for Feature are Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss‘s “Boys State” and Kirsten Johnson‘s “Dick Johnson Is Dead.”
In the last five years the group has matched with the academy’s documentary branch on three nominees, including a nomination and win last year for the eventual Oscar champ “American Factory.” With that precedent in mind, we might expect three of Ceh’s...

Even when she was a preschooler, Ariana Grande was a singing sensation—and a fan of carpool karaoke. The now-25-year-old, one of the most popular singers, posted on her Instagram page on Saturday a throwback video of her as a child, sitting in a car with her family and belting out Celine Dion's ballad "The Reason." The song was released in 1997, when Grande was 4 years old. "Put it from the beginning Frankie!" she tells her brother, Frankie Grande. In another video, Ariana and mom Joan Grande duet on Dion and Barbra Streisand's 1997 song "Tell Him." "We still sing this," Ariana wrote. "She's still Barbara...

There’s no questioning that for all of the company’s commitment to diverse characters and stories, Marvel has really been dragging their feat on their first female-lead superhero movie. Sure, they introduced the first female superhero of the genre’s modern era way back in Iron Man 2 with Black Widow, but despite constant and vocal fan demand for a solo movie, she has sadly played second fiddle to her male counterparts on the Avengers. She was a relatively bit player in Phase 1, a supporting character in Phase 2 and a quickly abandoned love interest going into Phase 3. Scarlett Johansson

The reason that Christian Bale hasn’t seen Ben Affleck’s attempt at the Batman franchise yet is pretty simple, he’s not a fan of the superhero genre. There’s nothing deeper to it, no strange phobia or desire to avoid it altogether. He’s just not a fan. He would have gone to see it if his son had wanted to see it he’s claimed, but other than that he has no desire to watch such movies. He wasn’t even fully invested in the role while he was playing the dark knight, which is surprising to many since he put a great amount

There’s a reason why Kylo Ren’s lightsaber is so different from anything that Star Wars fans have seen to date. A lot of fans have been wondering over this new lightsaber design since The Force Awakens trailers first appeared, and there’s a very good explanation for it, but it might not be what people want to hear. There’s also a reason why the blade looks so unstable as opposed to the very solid and reliable saber’s that other Jedi and Sith have used. It all has to do with the crystals and the design of the housing that are used
