Renowned defense attorney Phoenix Wright travels to the Kingdom of Khura'in, a small highly religious country in Asia, to visit his friend, Maya Fey, who is in the country for her spirit medium training. After his child tour guide is arrested for treason, he goes to observe his trial, only to discover that the court system determines people's guilty via a holy seance, Ahlbi doesn't have a defense attorney, and his execution has been decided in only a few minutes. After interrupting the trial to become Ahlbi's last hope, Phoenix soon discovers that the corruption of the country's legal system runs even deeper then it first seems, as he soon finds out that Khura'in has gone through a "genocide" of attorneys, resulting in there being none left in the country. With his life on the line under a law called the "Defense Culpability Act", Phoenix stands up to defend Ahlbi against his wrongful execution. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, California, Phoenix's daughter, Trucy Wright, gets herself into manslaughter charges after her co-performer winds up dead during her magic show. With Phoenix out of the country and tied up in troubles of his own, her only hope lies in the hands of Phoenix's subordinates, Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes. However the prosecutor on the case is a renowned international prosecutor from Khura'in, and a member of the Khura'inese clergy, Nahyuta Sahdmadhi.
