I really enjoyed this.
sheepshearer20 September 2018
It not only gave you the "facts" of this case, it also talked about other issues in South Africa. 4 episodes is a good length too. Other shows should take note.

Don't get the reviews saying it's pro OP.
whelan_jay10 April 2020
Read a lot of reviews before watching and was expecting some biased story but didn't get it. The man achieved great things as an athlete and while the doc shows that, it is all part of contrasting the athlete v the person and man who shot his girlfriend. I enjoyed this a lot and while we may never know what happened that night, he ultimately got what he deserved, didn't feel it sympathised with him at all... just gave the facts. OP was a great athlete with underlying issues, neither of which are excusable for his actions that night.

From Blade Runner to Pistol Pistorius
SG4410 October 2018
The quality of this documentary is extremely high. Whether you agree or disagree with the verdict, I found the arguments presented on each side to be very well-balanced, making this a true nail-biter to watch. The episodes were well paced and with just the right amount of content to keep you informed but also curious to keep watching. I did not feel at any point the story was being dragged on there was a very clear focus and point for each episode. The use of primarily home footage and expert interviews makes this even more interesting and real to watch - unlike some documentary series that have actors re-enact scenes with pointless side stories. Definitely worth watching and informing yourself on this truly heartbreaking documentary series!

Totally biased for OP
bexfair1 April 2019
This doc was very well done in my opinion. So much so that it manages very well, to paint a sensitive and sympathetic portrait of a murderer.

It is so clear this was an attempt to try and change people's minds about OP's guilt. All it managed to do for me, was make me more angry and sad for Reeva.

Oscar only ever cried for himself and when caught in his lies.

Thought provoking, delicately described, hugely evocative documentary.
info-692-74807117 September 2018
Such a powerful and thought-provoking documentary. One of the best that I have ever seen. It gives an insight from family, relatives and friends as well as the media both at the time and now. The first episode is wholly about his coming to fame, ending with the Olympics. This alone could be a separate documentary in its own right. The other episodes touch on the murder and aftermath. This really is worth watching! Exceptional depth, incredibly dramatic.

Well researched
gallagherkellie10 April 2021
There was a lot of detail in this documentary but it wasn't too long which is great. The first episode is solely about his life growing up and the Olympics (for those of you who only want the crime/trial etc then slip past episode one).

It was well researched and not boring at all. Probably a little biased toward Oscar but that's probably because his family were part of the documentary, although they did show all sides.

After watching this I firmly believe that he can't be convicted beyond a reasonable doubt. I think there's a strong chance that he didn't know she was in the bathroom. I've had someone break into my home before and trust me, you don't do anything that you thought you would!! Your whole body and mind freeze and change completely in those terrifying moments.

It get's better
nikashvili7 September 2018
Pistorius case was probably one of the most widely covered murder cases in this decade. I was very much interested in it, because everyone had a split idea whether he meant to murder Reeva.

This documentary gives pretty good general idea of the case from the perspective of both, prosecution and the defense. However, the start is a bit bumpy. Episode one tells the story of Pistorius's success and it feels like the documentary is trying to paint him as a hero to show that he is no murderer. However, in later episodes, the story is much balanced.

The third and fourth parts are excellent with some dramatic touch in addition to documentary storytelling.

Excellent!
pzberro6 September 2018
Excellent, well-written, informative, this documentary held me in suspense even though I knew its outcome. It gives a clear and objective view of the events and reveals a very surprisingly different portrait of the athlete.

Horribly in Favour of a murderer
izaanschmulow27 April 2020
This seems like it was paid for by the Pistorius family. As a South African and someone who listened to the trial as it happened, this series was portrayed in a completely different way. Portraying Oscar as a victim. So many interviews with members of Oscar's family, But none with Reeva's family or friends. Very one sided. And quite infuriating to be honest.

Brilliant and moving.
davisashlynad7 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Thoroughly researched and very well executed film. This unique portrayal establishes a wider context of the athlete's life, which allows you to form your own view of what really happened. It managed to take an exhausted topic and turn into a highly moving and insightful watch.

Biased Reviews Below
NGinAndTonic23 January 2022
Just writing this to tell you there's a handful of reviews giving it a bad rating, because it "glamourised" Oscar in the first episode.

Basically, they didn't watch the entire series before writing a review of it. Ignore them.

Example of selfish lying media ruining any chance of truth
hcurrie7712 May 2020
I believe him. I hope he gets out. It is obvious he is innocent. He has way too much detail and his story lines up exactlybwith evidence. This is nothing but media lies and racism towards whites that got him sent to jail. So sad.

Appalling tribute to a convicted murderer
daniele-iannarelli27 October 2018
Like one other reviewer, I lasted only a brief way into episode 1. In fact, I gave up after a wasted 18 minutes when I shockingly realised that this seemed to be a tribute to him... no less than a "This is Your Life" type platform.

It's appalling that the apparent trophy for committing crime is glorification! What about Reeva Steenkamp and her family???

It is SHE and her family who should have been awarded the accolade of such a tribute.

It's further testament to the cock-eyed politically-correct world of today!

Absolutely ridiculous.

Sympathy for a calculating murderer not on my watch folks
allsoul200227 September 2018
Watched half an hour of episode one, absolutely appalling of what the producers and family are trying to achieve here. The guy is a calculated murderer who I hope Never gets released.

Well documented, well sourced, however it's "balanced" approach is just an act.
Sergio_Ivan_198513 February 2020
This is an entertaining documentary, it interviews a lot of important people to the case, both from the defense and the prosecution (however, no one from Reeva's family, not even anyone of her friends, this is an indication of what the documenary is ultimately trying to accomplish, that I didn't quite catch from the beginning). However, after I finished watching it, I felt a little off, and iffy. A simple google search help me know why.

If you want to see it, you should go in knowing two very important factors:

1) The documentary is extremely graphic. It shows you very GORY images of the murder with no narrative justification whatsoever, with the seeming sole intention of making the prosecution look bad.

2) While the doc spends two full hours analizing the trial from both the prosecution and the defense points of view, it outright OMITS facts and sayings of the Pistorious narrative that would make his version of events look absurd, and it leaves in ONLY the things that make his version of the murder seem plausible. A simple google search can correct this.

So, if you want to see this, you should know that while it is quite entertaining and engrossing, it hides it's true intentions behind a facade of balanced reporting and neutrality that by the end, it is not even trying that hard to maintain, going so far as to making the whole pistorius family look like victims, desevring of our sympathy and pity.

Skip the fawning first episode it doesn't add anything to the facts of the case that followed. Episodes 2-4 are ok in presenting some facts

Weak Effort
thejeta128 June 2020
By the filmmakers at delving deep in to a story which was theatre to the world. Shame on the filmmakers. Their attempt at creating a cohesive documentary 4 part series failed. They just didn't explore the issues that mattered most instead of dwelling on his family of origin fluff.

That little runt-sick vile showing actual dead body photos-sick
allanmichael3016 June 2020
This starts off reasonable telling story i know what happened from news, but end in showing her dead body really sick and vile. I admired him for what he did in racing before killing, but seems like that no longer matters as he did drugs and effected his metal health and the rest history.
